ConcernedApe, the creator of the popular game Stardew Valley, recently responded to fan concerns about the development of their next game, Haunted Chocolatier. In a blog post, they addressed questions and reassured players about the time it’s taking to create the game.
It’s been a long time since ConcernedApe first talked about Haunted Chocolatier, but they want to reassure everyone that the game is still in development and will definitely be released.
‘I Am Not Going to Abandon Haunted Chocolatier’
So, the guy who made Stardew Valley, Eric Barone – though most of us know him as ConcernedApe – actually released that game almost ten years ago, back in February 2016. He’s been working on a new game called Haunted Chocolatier, which looks like it has a similar feel, and he showed it off in 2021. He recently posted that he probably announced it too soon, but said he had a good reason for doing so at the time.
He then explained some major issues with the game, particularly the fear that the single developer might stop working on it, and that unfinished features could be added to Stardew Valley.
He said:
I’m definitely not giving up on Haunted Chocolatier. And even if I were, I wouldn’t combine it with Stardew Valley. They’re intended to be completely separate games.
From a technical standpoint, the idea doesn’t work. Haunted Chocolatier is being built entirely new, not using the same foundation as Stardew Valley. You can’t simply transfer content from one game to the other.
Eric Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, is back to updating the game with a major update for its large and dedicated player base. He explained he’s returning to Stardew because it remains incredibly popular and he has more ideas to make it even better.
So, I was reading the latest blog post, and Barone finally addressed everyone’s biggest question about Haunted Chocolatier. He said there’s still no release date, which is a bummer, but he really emphasized that the game isn’t cancelled or forgotten about! That’s a huge relief as a fan.
