It’s a classic Elder Scrolls thing – using a skill makes it stronger, and some skills are way easier to level up than others!

Players can improve skills like potion-making, lockpicking, and blacksmithing simply by using them repeatedly, though this can become a bit repetitive. Alongside this, there’s a standard leveling system where players gain HP, magic, or stamina by defeating enemies. These battles also earn skill points, which can be used to unlock abilities in a wide range of skill trees.

In Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, mastering different character classes, called Jobs, is essential for success. Each Job has unique skills, and you can also unlock passive skills that any character can use. For instance, the Ninja Job lets characters wield two weapons effectively, dealing full damage with both. Winning often depends on creating strong character builds and combining passive skills in clever ways.

Certain character classes, or Jobs, can be incredibly powerful if players get creative with their strategies. For example, Monks are strong from the beginning and can quickly become a powerful force with high attack power and health, easily defeating enemies. Players can also build teams entirely of Valkyries, who can dodge almost any attack and then strike back with significant damage. By combining different classes on the same character, players can discover the most effective combinations across all versions of Bravely Default: Flying Fairy.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is known for its smooth and responsive combat, especially for an open-world game. What makes it unique is the freedom it gives players – you aren’t tied to a specific class and can mix and match skills and weapons however you like. While it’s not a particularly challenging game, you can level up quickly and earn plenty of rewards by completing quests for every character you meet.

While the story in the quests isn’t the most compelling part of the game, completing them is still worthwhile because they help you level up fast. The combat is easy to learn and very satisfying, so you’ll quickly feel powerful. For players who enjoy feeling like an unstoppable force in a fantasy world, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a great choice.

Disgaea 6: Defiance Of Destiny

An Idle RPG

Games that let your characters fight automatically have been around for a while in strategy RPGs, but Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny really took it to the next level. As you play, you’ll unlock the ability for your units to battle on their own, which is great for easier parts of the game. You can always switch back to manual control when things get tricky. There’s even an option to have your units completely replay levels automatically, letting you play the game hands-free.

In past Disgaea games, players could exploit an easy map to automatically level up their characters by leaving the game running. They’d find a simple map where their units wouldn’t die, start the autobattle feature, and return hours later to a much stronger party. Because this bypassed the intended gameplay experience, the developer, NIS, removed the ability to repeatedly play the same map in Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless. Okay, so in Fallout 4, you start in Vault 111, and when you first come out, you’ll probably notice this locked case with the Cryo Launcher inside – it’s a really cool freezing gun. The lock is super hard, like an expert level, so most of us just remember where it is and plan to come back later when we’re better at lockpicking. But, there’s a trick you can do to get it right away! If you know how, you can snag the Cryo Launcher early and start freezing everything in the wasteland – mutants, monsters, raiders, the whole nine yards.

To start, players need to locate the first gas station, where they’ll find the dog companion, Dogmeat. Once they have Dogmeat, they can go back to Vault 111 and command him to retrieve nearby objects. Sometimes, Dogmeat can actually steal a gun without the player needing a lockpick! While the gun won’t come with any ammo, this is a simple way to get a surprisingly powerful weapon very early in Fallout 4.

Final Fantasy 2

A Beginning Saga

When Final Fantasy 2 first came out on the NES (known as the Famicom in Japan), it was quite different from the original. Unlike most RPGs where you gain levels by earning experience, this game improved your stats based on what you did in battle – and it was all random. Getting hit could boost your defense or health, while using a spell like Fire might make it stronger. Repeatedly fighting monsters didn’t guarantee specific improvements. Players eventually discovered a shortcut: they could attack their own teammates to get the same stat boosts as fighting enemies, across different releases of Final Fantasy 2.

Players can fight enemies, reduce their health to almost nothing, and then focus attacks on the enemy’s allies. While they can heal when necessary with potions or abilities, the main strategy is to prolong the battle to ensure consistent stat improvements. It’s possible to gain several levels very quickly—within just a few hours in the first area. This unique combat system later served as the foundation for Square’s SaGa series, which features a similar randomized approach to character stats and skill development.
