As someone who has spent countless hours navigating the labyrinthine dungeons of Hyrule, I must say that the battle against Volvagia is one for the ages! This fiery beast certainly knows how to keep you on your toes with its ball of electricity and flaming attacks.
Following your journey through the Eldin Volcano area within “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom,” you’ll tackle the main dungeon, known as the Eldin Temple. This sprawling labyrinth of lava and volcanic rock is one of three dungeons that Link will face during the quest line “Lands of the Goddesses.” After finishing “Still Missing” and the Hyrule Castle dungeon, this overarching main mission begins. This guide will walk you through the entire Eldin Temple, showing where to find every treasure chest, how to conquer it, and how to defeat its boss, Volvagia.
How to Reach Eldin Temple in Echoes of Wisdom – Stilled Eldin Volcano
Upon entering Eldin Temple, aim for Tri to reach a power level of five units. This occurs when Tri advances to Level 6. If you find yourself with insufficient power, search for smaller fissures marked on the map. These smaller fissures can be found in regions where the primary fissure has already been cleared, but smaller ones remain visible on the map. Completing these smaller fissures will contribute to a partial level-up of Tri, and also reward Zelda with some ‘Crystals of Power’.
After Zelda, Tri, and Darston navigate through the Crater Shortcut, leading them into the core of the volcano known as the region’s namesake, they will discover the entryway to the Silent Eldin Volcano fissure. Similar to many dungeons in Echoes of Wisdom, the entrance to the Eldin Temple is hidden within this part of the Eldin Volcano that has been consumed by the main rift.
Once you’ve ventured into the “Tranquil Eldin Volcano”, remember to acquire the “Lava Stone Resonance” if it’s not already in your possession. It will prove vital in navigating the fissure. An unexpectedly useful second resonance is the “Water Barrier”. Interestingly, you can utilize the Water Barrier over lava. The first adversary you’ll face is a Fire “Octopus”. As you get ready to traverse, you can dispatch a flying resonance, for instance, the “Guay”. These can dive to attack the Fire Octopus, even when it’s submerged in lava.
Initially, utilize the Lava Rock and Water Block to navigate your path. Keep moving towards the right, aiming for the platform that’s not hovering above the lava. Once you reach this platform, look northeast and you’ll spot a Treasure Chest on another platform. From here, you can hop across the lava using Lava Rocks and traverse longer water channels by making use of Water Blocks.
Upon arriving at the Treasure Chest, go ahead and open it to collect five Rocktatoes. Be cautious though, as Dark Lizalfos and Dark Zirro may emerge after opening, ready to attack. In this situation, you might find it beneficial to activate Swordfighter Form since the dark enemies will drop energy upon defeat.
- Treasure Chest 1: 5 Rocktatoes
Make your way to the northeastern part of the platform first, then employ up to five Water Blocks to travel westwards in a straight line. Remember to pick up the second Treasure Chest before proceeding upward.
- Treasure Chest 2: Purple Rupee (50)
Return now to the initial spot where your journey west began. Initially, utilize a Lava Rock as a stepping stone to leap across to the cliff face situated on the opposite side of the lava flow. Scaling this wall will bring you to the foot of a larger, second climbing wall. Here, you can attempt to swiftly ascend to the platform’s summit before your adversaries arrive, or employ Swordfighter Form to clear them out.
Upon ascending to the peak, you’ll discover a pool of molten rock and several Fire Octopuses. It’s best to move on swiftly from this spot, so proceed west as soon as possible. Travel past the platform with the initial air vent, and you’ll come across two Zirros. If you possess the Zirro Echo, you can simply bypass them. Continue your journey until you get to the third air vent, which is right before a lava barrier.
The easiest option here is to use a Ghirro Echo. These not only float, but they also accelerate. Hold on to the Ghirro, then use the air vent to send you skyward. You will then be able to head east, all the way to the entrance to Eldin Temple. Make sure you are prepared, then head inside.
Eldin Temple Walkthrough First Floor (1F) – Echoes of Wisdom
By now in the game, you’ll find yourself capable of mastering numerous advanced combat techniques. Utilizing the Sword Moblin Lv 3, Darknut Lv 3, or Lynel Echo will significantly simplify combat encounters. To expedite our progress through each dungeon room, we employed these potent Echoes. But remember, one of the delights of Echoes of Wisdom lies in exploring different Echoes. The game remains enjoyable whether you rush through or take your time experimenting.
As a fan, stepping into Eldin Temple for the first time, don’t forget to trigger the Fast-Travel waypoint right away. You can also rejuvenate by soaking in the Hot Springs, but if you need hearts quickly, any of the Bed Echoes will do the trick more efficiently.
First Chamber:
Step into the room after passing through the initial door, where you’ll find magma-stone floors and a pair of Fire Keese. Swordfighter Form easily handles these nuisance critters, or use any combat ability from your echo. The magma stones may burn Zelda, similar to outside the dungeon. You have three exits from this room, but one door will be locked. Feel free to choose either exit first.
Northern Chamber:
As you make your way into the northern room, you’ll come across a pair of ominous Dark Zirro foes. Switch to Swordfighter Form and use your bow to eliminate them. Subsequently, head towards the northeastern corner of the room and smash the two fragile blocks. Underneath, you’ll uncover the first Treasure Chest in this temple, which is partially buried. To retrieve it, apply the Bind ability. Inside, you’ll discover eight Twisted Pumpkins. This concludes your exploration of the northern chamber.
- 1F ITreasure Chest 1: 8 Twisted Pumpkins
Eastern Chambers:
Upon re-entering the initial large room, you now have the option to leave through the northeastern door. This chamber you enter will feature several active lava geysers and an elevated platform above. There are various paths to navigate this first chamber. We opted for moving boulders to cross over the first lava geyser, then creating a Lava Rock on the second geyser and allowing the lava to lift us to the upper level.
As you step into the following room, notice it’s primarily an open space with air ducts lining its perimeter. Utilize a Ghirro Echo to effortlessly glide across the chamber towards the Treasure Chest situated in the northeastern corner. Inside this chest, you will discover the initial Key.
Locked Chamber:
Stepping into the locked room, it seems like it’s overflowing with molten lava. But after a brief pause, you notice the lava ebbing and flowing. At its lowest point, a Treasure Chest appears in the southwest corner, buried beneath the ground. You can pull it out using the Bind ability, revealing a Golden Egg inside. Defeat the two Tweelus creatures, then use Bind again to dislodge a Lava Rock from the western ledge within the room. There, you’ll find a button that opens the exit in the northeastern corner. This is your way out of the first floor.
- 1F Treasure Chest 3: Golden Egg
Be certain to grab the Tweelus Echo before departing from the first floor, since you may find it useful later on.
Eldin Temple Walkthrough Second Floor (2F) – Echoes of Wisdom
Side-Scrolling Chamber (Eldin Temple Dungeon Map):
As a fan, I’d rephrase it like this: The initial upstairs room switches to side-scrolling view, and it’s quite manageable to navigate through. Place a Lava Rock on the first erupting lava fountain, then leap onto the climbing wall. Upon reaching the second lava fountain while scaling, summon another Lava Rock from the wall, followed by a jump onto it. Once there, you can use a summons for an Old Bed to acquire the additional lift required to leap to the higher platform.
In the upcoming part of the side-scrolling room, you’ll initially meet a solitary Fire Enemy called Keese. There are several hot air vents scattered around. Your initial objective is to secure the following Treasure Chest situated in the lower portion of the room. Descend the first ladder within the room, then either use a Tweelus or a Boulder to obstruct the air vent. Proceed to the next ladder and go down it.
Initially, you should move towards your left, but be cautious of the lava that periodically rises and falls. To your left, you’ll spot a blue mechanism that Zelda needs to strike to activate it. The most straightforward method for this task is by employing the Bow. Striking the mechanism will cause the gate on the right to rise. Then, make use of the Strandtula Echo’s web line to return to your starting position.
Turn right, positioning a Lava Rock at the heart of the escalating lava flow. Use your Bow to eliminate the Torch Slug. Proceed into the final zone to grab another Key from the Treasure Chest. Make your way back to the chamber with the warm drafts.
- 2F Treasure Chest 1: Small Key
Move towards the obstructed climbing wall due to air vents, and strategically time your ascent for when it’s safe to climb. Once you reach the summit, notice a Treasure Chest situated to your left. Call upon a Tweelus, hoist it above Zelda’s head. This action enables her to pass under the vents and unlock the chest, revealing the Map of the Dungeon.
- 2F Treasure Chest 2: Map
As I tread forward, I’m climbing higher, aiming for the upper half of this floor. Gotta remember to hit the marker up ahead, it’s right before that locked door I’ve finally got a key for. Time to unlock and push on!
Eldin Temple Walkthrough Dark Link Bombs – Echoes of Wisdom
How to Defeat Dark Link in Eldin Temple:
Upon opening and stepping into the room behind the secured door, you’ll come face-to-face with Dark Link, who is now armed with his signature Bombs for this encounter. Overcoming Dark Link in this battle is the key to obtaining traditional bombs within the game “Echoes of Wisdom”.
In this game scenario, Link will launch explosives aiming at Zelda, but since he’s initially too high up, she won’t get hurt. Your primary objective is to clear a path towards the climbing wall by detonating fragile blocks using Link’s bombs. If you possess the Frog Ring from Echoes of Wisdom, you can leap onto those blocks and make a beeline for the wall directly.
At the peak, you may activate the Swordfighter Technique to strike with either the Mighty Sword or Bow. Additionally, you can call upon a potent Phantom ally for assistance. However, Link will warp across the battlefield after sustaining a specific level of damage, making it tricky to depend on Phantoms entirely.
Link will be transported down below, granting Zelda an advantageous strategic stance. Keep using the arrows until Link transitions to Phase 2.
Dark Link Bombs Phase 2:
In the second stage, Link’s behavior significantly changes, launching numerous bombs at an accelerated speed. Fortunately, debris from these explosions often results in the appearance of energy orbs for Zelda. Stay close to Link and relentlessly assault him using your sword or bow.
1) Be cautious of the newly enhanced explosives that pursue Zelda relentlessly. If you keep moving and consistently attack with the Bow, you should manage to defeat him swiftly. Following the vanquish of Dark Link, you’ll gather the Powerful Bombs, which can be upgraded at Lueberry’s just like other Swordfighter Form weapons.
Eldin Temple Walkthrough Third Floor (3F) – Echoes of Wisdom
Get Both Small Keys and Fire Wizzrobe Echo:
After defeating Dark Link and advancing to the third level, navigate through the chambers on this level while gathering both Small Keys and the Fire Wizzrobe’s duplicates (or echoes).
Initially, head towards the upper part of the Third Floor’s main room, which is located in the northeastern section. Refer to the map for guidance on your first route. Start by climbing the main ladder that leads to the third floor, then move towards the northeastern corner. You might face some minor opposition from two Tweelus and one Fire Keese. To remove any obstacles in your path, consider using bombs or Bombfish. Once the blocks are cleared, proceed using the nearby ladder.
At the peak of the ladder lies a spacious chamber with a solitary Tweelus, alongside numerous fragile crates. By dismantling the crates in the northwest corner, you’ll uncover a Treasure Chest holding a Silver Rupee (100). To find the exit, shatter the crates in the northeastern corner.
- 3F Treasure Chest 1: Silver Rupee (100)
In the final northeastern room, you’ll find a battle-only chamber housing the Fire Wizzrobe. This area calls for the Bow of Might, but if you need extra assistance, summon aid from flying entities such as Guay or Crow. Don’t forget to grab the Fire Wizzrobe Echo, a top-tier item, when you defeat him. Behind his demise lies a chest that unveils your first Small Key.
- 3F Treasure Chest 2: Small Key 1
Return by the same route you took earlier, keep going until you reach the northeastern corner of the primary third-floor room. Then, move westward straight ahead, and you’ll encounter a Dark Web obstructing your path. Eliminate it, and you’ll notice a small chamber underneath you filled with destructible blocks. Knock down these blocks to uncover the Treasure Chest, which holds the second Small Key.
- 3F Treasure Chest 3: Small Key 2
2F Big Key Detour:
By examining the map, you’ll notice a descent ladder situated in the southwest corner of the third floor room. This is your route to retrieve Eldin Temple’s large key. Proceed towards the lock and descend the ladder. Along the way, you’ll pass through a small chamber serving as a midpoint. Descend into this chamber via the ladder.
Descend to the foot of the chamber, where you’ll encounter a towering climbing structure. At its summit lies a substantial chest holding the coveted Big Key. Proceed with caution as retrieving the key will set off the lava to start rising. Be prepared to swiftly ascend when that happens. Wearing the Climbing Aid of Echoes of Wisdom could prove advantageous in this situation.
As you near the conclusion, keep an eye out – the last rung of the ladder will disintegrate. Swiftly call upon a swift Echo for flight and soar from the platform towards the climbing surface to your left. In doing this promptly, you’ll be able to grab hold of the wall and find your escape.
Path to the Final Door:
After returning to the primary room on the third level, make your way towards the last lock located in the northwest corner. You have two options: clear a path by breaking the obstacles blocking the ladder’s ascent, or utilize an Echo to gain access to the small chamber above and subsequently reach the lock.
Reaching the last, largely lava-covered chamber can be challenging, but there are air vents that make progress easier thanks to the agile creatures known as Ghirro. To begin, utilize a Ghirro from the initial platform to reach halfway. Next, use a Lava Rock on the lava geyser to ascend to a higher level. Lastly, employ another Ghirro to navigate to the final door and Fast-Travel waypoint.
Ensure you are well-prepared for the upcoming showdown with the final boss. Having a means to replenish your energy is crucial in this battle, as the Bow of Might and Bombs work best against it. You can obtain Energy Refreshing Salted Milky Smoothies from any of ‘Echoes of Wisdom’s Smoothie Shops. Each smoothie requires one piece of Rock Salt and one Fresh Milk to make.
Eldin Temple Beat Volvagia – Echoes of Wisdom
How to Beat Volvagia in Echoes of Wisdom:
Unlocking the final door takes you into Volgavia‘s chamber for Eldin Temple‘s final showdown.
In this battle against Volvagia, Zelda can use her Bow of Might effectively due to its predictable attack style. The giant red dragon will fly around the arena, then dive into the molten lava. A while later, it re-emerges from various spots. It’s crucial for Zelda to strike at the glowing green orb that Volvagia carries on its neck when this happens.
As a gamer, I’d approach the dragon cautiously, then press ZL to instinctively zero in on the glowing green orb. Since Volvagia doesn’t offer any other targeting spots, it can be tricky, but the lock-on system should manage just fine.
Volvagia possesses two primary strategies to counter any attack attempts, the initial one being a massive, electrically charged ball of green hue. Typically, this is Volvagia’s preferred method of attack, quickly unleashed moments after it emerges by raising its head.
Another way to phrase this could be: The second form of attack involves Volvagia launching a burst of flaming projectiles as it rotates its head, generating a whirl of fire.
As a gamer, I find myself dodging the creeping ball of electricity that’s coming my way, aiming to move closer to Volvagia instead. This electric orb is crawling towards me, so I gotta be patient and outmaneuver it. Now, when it comes to Volvagia, I need to seize every opportunity because its moments of vulnerability are fleeting. So, I’ve got to act fast each time it pops up!
As you approach Volvagia, the intensity of its fire assault increases proportionally to your distance. To create room for maneuvering during attacks, you might want to retreat slightly. Alternatively, should you have an abundant supply of healing resources, standing still and taking the blows could be an option. Be wary, however, as Volvagia also unleashes a prolonged straight-line fire blast that can inflict substantial harm. Fortunately, this attack is relatively brief, so dodging it once should typically suffice to avoid excessive damage.
As a devoted Zelda enthusiast, I can suggest utilizing “Zelda’s Bed” during the heated battle when Volvagia is circling the arena. It offers a brief respite, but it could be just what you need to regain strength and continue the fight!
In each attack phase, aim to shatter the green sphere. Shattering the sphere multiple times before Volvagia submerges will cause it to break, causing the dragon to lean over weakly. This moment of weakness makes Volvagia susceptible to all attacks. If you have a Lynel, Darknut Lv 3, or any other powerful Echoes, keep them ready for this specific situation.
Phase 2:
During the second stage, Volvagia introduces just one additional attack, which appears to be specific to certain areas. At particular instances, Volvagia spits a trail of fiery liquid that forms a big circular puddle, inflicting area-of-effect damage if Zelda is caught within it. We encountered this behavior only when he emerged from the magma stone area in the battlefield.
Apart from any changes, the next stage will follow closely after the first. Keep targeting the green ball using the same strategy, and dodge its assaults whenever possible. Rest assured, Volvagia will eventually fall.
Volvagia Rewards (Din’s Sanction):
In the tradition of boss battles from The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, defeating Volvagia yields these prizes:
- Tri Level-Up
- Five Might Crystals
- One Heart Container
Since Eldin Temple lies within the domain known as the Land of the Goddesses, vanquishing Volvagia will not only grant Zelda Din’s Blessing, but also mark the completion of the Eldin Temple quest.
