As a longtime Nintendo enthusiast and collector of retro games, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia when reminiscing about these iconic series that never quite reached the same level of fame as their counterparts like Mario or Pokemon. But let me tell you, they were gems in their own right, offering unique experiences and challenges that set them apart from the crowd.
Behind “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom,” you’ll find Grezzo as the developer. They have collaborated with Nintendo on various Zelda adaptations and remakes, such as the 2019 Switch version of “The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening” and the 3DS edition of “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.” Additionally, they have contributed to other Nintendo franchises like Mario, while also working on their own original titles. However, it appears that the Zelda series forms a significant part of their core work.
Given the positive reception for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and all other Zelda games under Grezzo’s management, Nintendo might want to consider placing greater trust in this developer. If internal Nintendo teams prefer not to work on older IPs, it would be beneficial for them to offer Grezzo the opportunity to select which titles they could potentially revive. Whether they decide to create a sequel or remake an old game is their call, but here are some suggestions:
6 Custom Robo
Building Robots And Becoming The Best

The Custom Robo series originated in Japan, debuting as a Nintendo 64 game in 1999. In North America, gamers first encountered it on the GameCube in 2004 and later on the DS in 2007. Among all games in the series, Custom Robo Arena was the final one to be released.
They all play similarly with kids buying parts and customizing their toy mechs to fight in action-based battle arenas. Since Grezzo is great at making games look like toys, like in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, this would be a great fit for them. It’s also been a while since the Custom Robo franchise has been seen and assuredly there have to be some hardcore fans out there waiting for a sequel or collection.
5 Kid Icarus
Pit Will Uprise Again
The “Kid Icarus” series boasts a rather unpredictable journey. Its roots go back to 1986 in Japan, where it first appeared as a game on the NES console. A year later, North America followed suit. Interestingly, North America had an advantage over Japan, receiving a sequel for the Game Boy that didn’t initially see release overseas. The series seemed to have ended after this point until its revival in 2012 on the 3DS platform with “Kid Icarus: Uprising,” which marked the last installment in the series so far.
In the world of gaming, Pit, our primary character, continues his battle legacy within the Super Smash Bros. series. Notably, characters such as Dark Pit and Lady Palutena from Kid Icarus also appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This suggests that while the franchise isn’t entirely dormant, it’s been a while since a new game has been released – over a decade to be precise. Given Grezzo’s proficiency, it seems more appropriate for them to remake the original game in a modern style instead of creating a sequel like Kid Icarus: Uprising that might require a high-intensity action approach.
4 Mother/EarthBound
Putting Promo Art To Good Use
Ever since its debut in Japan on the Game Boy Advance back in 2006, enthusiasts have been eagerly demanding an official North American release of Mother 3. Yet, despite their persistent pleas, it remains unavailable. Now, one might wonder if Grezzo should be entrusted with remaking this game. At this stage, it could be more amusing if they instead focused on creating Mother 4. It would certainly be a mischievous move by Nintendo to overlook the desired game and then produce a fresh Mother title instead.
It’s possible that showcasing their past work could spark greater enthusiasm among fans, but regardless, Grezzo certainly possesses the skills to create role-playing games (RPGs). While some may not recall it, they were behind the development of the action RPG “Ever Oasis” for the 3DS and the Switch port of the turn-based RPG “Miitopia”. Notably, characters like Lucas and Ness from the Mother series have been incorporated as fighters in the “Super Smash Bros.” series too.
3 Punch-Out!!
Little Mac Still Has Some Fight Left In Him
As a diehard fan, I can trace my love for Punch-Out!! back to its arcade debut in 1984, but it’s the NES version that really resonates with me. The iconic Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, released in 1987, was not just a boxing game; it was a strategic boss-rush experience where each fighter had telltale signs and vulnerabilities to exploit. It was truly ahead of its time, and its popularity paved the way for two more installments. The final chapter of this classic series was released on the Wii in 2009.
Although they didn’t generate revenue as much as games like Mario or Pokemon, they undeniably had a dedicated following from Nintendo fans. Despite being confined to the boxing ring, it’s intriguing to imagine what Grezzo could do with the main character, Little Mac. Perhaps they could expand his world, allowing him to explore his city, train for matches in RPG-style battles, or even take on a mentor role in a boxing simulation game. It’s worth noting that Little Mac is already part of the Super Smash Bros. series.
2 StarTropics
Zelda’s American Cousin
The game titled “StarTropics” bucked the trend and none of its series characters have been playable in “Super Smash Bros.“. This series never ventured beyond its original platform, the NES, where it first appeared in 1990. It aspired to be another smashing success like “The Legend of Zelda“, albeit with a unique twist. Sharing similarities such as an explorable world from a top-down perspective, it established its own identity.
Initially, in dungeons, the game transitioned into a more detailed style with altered perspectives and graphics. It was a trailblazer for its time aesthetically. ‘Zoda’s Revenge: StarTropics 2’ was released as a sequel in 1994. Although the series has moved beyond the NES due to virtual libraries like those on the Switch, there was no sequel developed on more advanced hardware. Given Grezzo’s impressive work on ‘Zelda’ games and the logical fit of their expertise, it seems ideal for them to develop a remake of the original ‘StarTropics’.
1 Wario Land
Shake Up This Garlic Loving Fiend
1994 marked the debut of Wario as the main character in the platformer genre, with “Super Mario Land 3” being the game. This event signified a shift in the franchise’s identity, as Nintendo recognized that Wario could sell well on his own without the assistance of Mario. Over time, the series was simply known as “Wario Land.” The franchise spawned multiple games, and Wario also branched out into various spin-offs, such as the popular “WarioWare” series.
WarioWare has persisted with some periods of inactivity, and the last Wario Land game was “Wario Land: Shake It!” back in 2008, which was a Wii title. Studio Grezzo has previously worked on one Mario spinoff, the well-received remake of “Luigi’s Mansion” for the 3DS. Before they move onto a full-fledged Mario game, it might be beneficial for Nintendo to assign them a new Wario Land project or even a remake instead.
