Following the success of Naruto, Boruto focuses on a new generation of ninja as they mature, much like we saw with Naruto and his friends. While familiar faces like Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura still appear, the series also features new characters and the absence of some from the original Naruto.
Despite likely still living in Konoha, several beloved characters from Naruto haven’t been seen in the Boruto series. Fans are curious about what these characters are doing, but they haven’t made any appearances in the anime yet. Here’s a look at six of the best-developed characters from Naruto who seem to have been left out of the Boruto storyline.

6. Baki
Jonin of Sunagakure
- Member of the Suna Council
- Can utilize abilities such as Wind Release and Blade of Wind
- Trainer of Gaara
I first noticed Baki during the Chunin Exams while watching his student, Gaara, compete. He’s a really dedicated trainer, and it’s clear he’s been with Gaara for most of his time as a ninja. I’ve seen him effortlessly defend the village on multiple occasions – the Kazekage Rescue Mission stands out – and it’s nice to see he keeps in touch with his former students, too.
I remember Baki from Naruto – he wasn’t always in the spotlight, but he did a lot of good work quietly, especially helping Gaara and other young ninja. Honestly, I’d really love to see him show up in Boruto. He was so dedicated to his village, and it would be amazing to see him interact with the new generation of ninja – I think a lot of fans would feel the same way.
5. Yugao Uzuki
Anbu from Konoha
- Member of the Anbu, a group of covert operatives
- Possesses great skill in kenjutsu and strong sensory abilities
- Was assigned to the Logistical Support and Medical Division
I always noticed Yugao Uzuki, even though she wasn’t a central figure in Naruto. She had a way of standing out. What really sets her apart is her history – she became an Anbu operative when she was just a child. She’s incredibly talented with a sword, but her life takes a really sad turn when she loses Hayate, her boyfriend of many years, while he’s on a mission to find Kabuto.
Later in the Naruto series, Yugao is compelled to battle Hayate after he’s unexpectedly revived and put under Kabuto’s control. She wins the fight, and he’s sealed away again, though she’s left with further injuries. It would have been compelling to see Yugao Uzuki in Boruto, learning about her life after Hayate and if she chose to return to the Anbu.
4. Yoshino Nara
Wife of Shikaku, Head of the Nara Clan
- Married to Shikaku, mother of Shikamaru
- Is a chunin-level kunoichi
- Talented in hand-to-hand combat
Many viewers might not realize Yoshino Nara’s strength, seeing her primarily as Shikamaru’s mother and the wife of the Nara Clan leader. But in Naruto, she’s a surprisingly skilled fighter, particularly in hand-to-hand combat. She proves this by defeating a group of sumo wrestlers using only her fighting skills and some kitchen tools.
It would have been wonderful to see Yoshino return in Boruto. She was a devoted mother and wife, and also demonstrated remarkable strength and dedication to her village. Given that Shikamaru appears often in the series, it would have been nice to see his mother make an occasional appearance to further develop his backstory. Though she seemed quiet, Yoshino Nara had the potential to be a really impactful character.
3. Ebisu
Tokubetsu Jonin from Konoha
- Leader of Team Ebisu
- Extremely-skilled Trainer
- Can perform Shadow Clone Technique and Fire Release: Fire Dragon Bullet
Ebisu was a highly skilled trainer in the Naruto series, leading a team that included Konohamaru Sarutobi, Udon, and Moegi. He was deeply committed to his work as a ninja and showed unwavering loyalty to his village and its people. Despite his dedication, he earned the nickname “secret perv” because of his inappropriate behavior around women.
I really miss Ebisu! It’s a shame he’s completely absent from the Boruto series. He wasn’t a main character in Naruto by any means, but he showed up often enough and always provided some fun moments. Plus, he was a seriously dedicated teacher – he really put his students through their paces, even leading them on tough A-rank missions! I especially remember when Furido attacked Konoha and his team helped evacuate everyone – that was a big deal, and it showed how well he’d prepared them.
2. Haku
Mercenary Ninja
- Trained under Zabuza Momochi
- A descendant of the Yuki Clan
- Possesses many different abilities
Haku had a difficult childhood. His father killed his mother when he learned she possessed a rare and unique ability. Afterward, he was taken in and trained by Zabuza Momochi to become a ninja. Throughout Zabuza’s battles with Kakashi, Haku loyally supported and protected him, becoming a powerful enemy for Naruto and his teammates.
Haku tragically died protecting Zabuza, even though Zabuza didn’t seem to care for him. Later, he was brought back to life by Kabuto Yakushi to fight in the war, but eventually returned to the afterlife. It would have been compelling to see Haku reappear in Boruto, perhaps resurrected again, but this time free from being a pawn for Zabuza.
1. Zabuza Momochi
Demon of the Hidden Mist
- A missing-nin from the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist
- Trained Haku
- Kirigakure’s most powerful shinobi
Zabuza Momochi was one of the earliest and most memorable villains faced by Naruto and his team. He earned the terrifying nickname “Demon of the Hidden Mist” after massacring over 100 students at the Ninja Academy. Because he frequently clashed with his village leaders, he tried to take control from the Mizukage, but his attempt failed. This led him to become a rogue ninja, and he eventually met and teamed up with Haku.
Zabuza mentored Haku, shaping him into a highly skilled Anbu operative, and intended to use him as a personal weapon. Despite being defeated by Kakashi, it would be compelling to see both characters return in Boruto, perhaps through resurrection. The series could explore what would happen if they lived separate lives and how that would change their destinies.
