All the Easter Eggs & References Hidden in The Last of Us S2 Posters

Ellie’s Character Poster

In “The Last of Us Part 2”, Ellie becomes the central focus, much like the game’s cover. The character poster for Bella Ramsey seems to be a tribute to this design, as it shares a similar style. The artwork for “The Last of Us Part 2” showcases a close-up image of Ellie’s intense and blood-streaked face, which is echoed in the poster depicting Ramsey portraying Ellie.

Embedded within the blank areas of the picture are the shapes of several key items significant for The Last of Us Season 2. One such shape represents the cordyceps fungus, known for transforming humans into the infected beings that have devastated civilization. In Season 1, it was revealed that Ellie is immune to the cordyceps virus, making her unaffected by bites, scratches, or inhalation of spores from infected subjects. Throughout The Last of Us Part 2, the cordyceps fungus remains central to Ellie’s experiences, shaping both her interactions with the infected and influencing her relationships.

In my enthusiasm as a fan, I can’t help but notice intriguing details in Ellie’s character poster from The Last of Us sequel. Her switchblade, a legacy from her mother that was handed down by Marlene, is prominently displayed. This trusty weapon has been a crucial part of Ellie’s arsenal throughout the games, and in the sequel, it’s done quite a bit of damage!

Joel’s Character Poster

Pedro Pascal’s character, Joel, is prominently showcased in one of the character posters for The Last of Us Season 2. Much like Ellie’s poster, Joel’s design incorporates an outline of cordyceps, a recurring motif throughout the series, serving as a visual cue that the artwork is set within the universe of The Last of Us.

The character poster for Joel showcases two significant items. One is a sketch of Joel’s damaged watch, recognizable by the lines on its face. Despite being broken, Joel wears it throughout the series as it was a present from his daughter Sarah, who sadly perished during the epidemic. A guitar outline encircles the watch face in the poster, another vital aspect of The Last of Us Part 2. Both Joel and Ellie share an affection for playing guitar, a connection that deepens as Joel teaches Ellie shortly after they settle in Jackson. The story’s thread throughout the second game is often interwoven with the theme of the guitar, notably Joel’s performance of Pearl Jam’s ‘Future Days’.

Abby’s Character Poster

In the second season of “The Last of Us,” Abby is a fresh character who plays a crucial role. Her character poster subtly foreshadows upcoming events in Season 2, suggesting that her story will intertwine with Ellie and Joel’s. The design of Abby’s poster resembles Ellie’s, featuring a profile shot of her face covered in blood spatters, symbolizing their shared experiences of violence and vengeance as they embark on their respective journeys.

In Abby’s poster, there’s a silhouette of a wolf within its blank areas. This game, “The Last of Us Part 2,” uses wolves to symbolize the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), one of the factions presented in Seattle. Characters associated with the WLF are often called ‘wolves.’ Given that Abby is part of this faction, having a wolf on her poster suggests she may be one of them, hinting at her character identity.

Below half of Abby’s poster displays a reversed scene of Joel carrying Ellie from the hospital, which marked the end of Season 1. This crucial event led to Abby’s storyline since Joel was the one who killed her father during the raid on the hospital to save Ellie. This image on the poster subtly suggests that Joel and Ellie played a significant role in shaping Abby’s character.

The Last of Us Season 2 is expected to release on HBO in 2025.
