Epic Games Store Gave Away 662 MILLION Free Games in 2025

Epic Games recently shared a detailed look at how the Epic Game Store has performed over the past year. The results show significant growth, with the platform now boasting over 317 million users, including 78 million who actively use it each month.

The Epic Games Store is popular for regularly giving away free games without requiring anything from users. In 2025 alone, they offered 100 free games, leading to over 662 million downloads. On average, each player received games with a total value of $2,316.

Epic Games, Epic Numbers

Okay, so Epic Games just dropped some numbers, and they’re HUGE. Apparently, we all spent a crazy 6.6 billion hours gaming on their platform last year! What’s really cool is that 2.7 billion of those hours were in games I got directly from the Epic Games Store – not even Fortnite! And we spent over $1.16 billion on games there, which is up 6% from the year before. That’s a lot of digital loot!

PC gaming has been growing in popularity for years, and the latest figures clearly demonstrate that trend.

Throughout 2023, Epic Games gave away 100 free games, which players claimed over 662 million times. Remarkably, 77% of these free games reached their highest ever player counts, and 40% saw an increase in players on Steam after being offered.

That’s the Epic Games Store‘s chief competitor, by the way.

Nearly a billion people now have an Epic Games account, with most of them using the Epic Games Store.

Epic Games shared a graphic showing the five most popular games on their platform in 2025, based on how much players spent and how often they played. These games were:

  • Fortnite
  • Wuthering Waves
  • StarRail
  • Rocket League
  • Genshin Impact

Games such as FC 26, GTA 5, Hogwarts Legacy, Borderlands 4, and ARC Raiders were also popular, though slightly behind the very top games.

As the report wrapped, the Epic Games team offered a message:

We’re working to create a more equitable and accessible marketplace for both gamers and game creators. Looking ahead to 2026, we’re dedicated to supporting developers and ensuring players have a great experience on any platform.
