How to Beat the Flame Talus in Echoes of Wisdom

As a seasoned adventurer with years of combat under my belt, I can confidently say that tackling the Fire Talus in Echoes of Wisdom is no walk in the park. This fiery foe may resemble its Seismic counterpart from Suthorn Ruins, but make no mistake – it packs a whole lot more heat!

A Mountainous Mystery” is a partially-hidden side quest that takes place in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom‘s Eldin Volcano region. This special quest takes places after Zelda closes the main rift in Eldin Volcano, freeing Darston, the leader of the Gorons, to take on other tasks around the region. In this quest, players will face the Fire Talus, one of Echoes of Wisdom‘s toughest bosses. This guide will show you when and where you can find “A Mountainous Mystery,” and how to beat the Fire Talus in Echoes of Wisdom.

To start the adventure titled “A Mountainous Mystery“, you need to first conquer the Eldin Temple dungeon and seal the main rift of Eldin Volcano. Only then will the quest appear in Echoes of Wisdom for you to embark on.

To embark on “A Mountainous Mystery,” first, ascend to the genuine peak of Eldin Volcano. Your odyssey should commence at the Lizalfos Burrow, a crucial location in Eldin Volcano’s primary quest. From the burrow, navigate around the outer rim of the lava lake. Be cautious as Zirro may drop bombs that will detonate and potentially thrust you into the lake.

As a passionate fan, here’s one way I might rephrase that:

At the point where you encounter the Lava Rocks, you can utilize either the Cloud Echo or the layered Old-Beds for crossing the chasm. That’s where you’ll discover the entryway to the Summit Cave.

Upon entering the cavern, there stands Darston at the threshold of the deeper rooms, visibly hesitant to venture further in. Approach him to initiate “A Mountainous Mystery”.

Summit Cave Chamber One:

To start, activate a Lava Rock Echo near the lava fountain in the cave, which will take you to the initial upper platform. Navigate around the corner using the climbing wall, then jump down onto the next piece of lava rock. After that, call forth another Lava Rock on the subsequent geyser while holding ‘Y’, making sure it bridges the gap between them. Ascend the rock and ride it up to the next level.

Again, make your way to the back platform by utilizing a Lava Rock. After that, go right and choose between using both a Lava Rock and Boulder or just using Clouds to reach the final stage. If you have them, using Clouds is the most straightforward approach. The Cloud Echo can be found in the region of Hebra Mountain.

Summit Cave Chamber Two:

In the next room, I find myself standing before an intriguing rock-climbing wall that leads down to a series of stone platforms dotted with dry grass. A group of Fire Keese creatures are lurking about, ready to ignite the grass at any moment. To navigate this fiery challenge, I’ll need to exercise patience and let the flames burn out before making my way across to the opposite end of the chamber where another climbing wall awaits. However, before tackling that wall, I’ll have to maneuver some boulders that block my path, using a combination of pushing and bind moves.

At the peak of the rock-climbing structure, you’ll find yourself facing a lava pool filled with numerous geysers. We navigated our way to the Lava Stone in the northeastern part of the pool using the Clouds. After that, we utilized the Clouds again to ascend to the upper level and reach the exit. There are undoubtedly other methods to complete this task. Employing a Platboom on the Lava Stone could very well be another successful approach.

Summit Cave Chamber Three:

In this third section, the viewpoint changes to a side-scrolling format. Upon entering, you’ll observe that the lava surges up and down, requiring swift movement from you. Continue forward until you come across a wall ideal for climbing, which splits at the top. On the left, there’s a Fire Slug and a Treasure Chest holding a Purple Rupee worth 50. To your right, there’s a small recess where you can hide and wait for the lava to recede.

The end of the chamber is the only tricky part. You’ll want to hold Y to summon a Lava Rock from a distance against the far right wall. Then summon a Strandtula spider, which creates a climbable web strand up to the ceiling. This will take you to the exit.

The next chamber is the final resting point before the Fire Talus.

Essentially, the battle against the Flame Talus is quite similar to that of the Seismic Talus found within the Suthorn Ruins dungeon. Just like before, you’ll find a small orb which can be extracted using ‘Bind’. This will be your main target. However, there are differences in terms of power level and health pool between the Flame Talus and its seismic counterpart. The fire element, unfortunately, isn’t much to worry about.

The Fire Talus uses three primary attacks:

  • Fist Launch: Exactly like it sounds, the Talus aims, then launches its flaming fist at Zelda.
  • Spin Attack: The Flame Talus winds up, then does a full spin with its arms spread out, creating a large AOE.
  • Slam Attack: The Talus reaches both arms up in the air, then slams down, creating a medium-sized AOE when they hit the ground.

In the initial stage, these attacks are quite predictable. The Fire Talus’ orb takes more time to retrieve than the Seismic Talus’, which means Zelda will have extended periods of exposed vulnerability. Remember that Zelda can move and jump while bound. Eventually, the orb will be ejected, providing a chance for repeated attacks.

Phase Two:

During Phase Two, the Fire Talus moves noticeably quicker and proves tougher to decipher. Its assaults grow substantially stronger, making it crucial to monitor Zelda’s health points closely.

Apart from the location change, the main distinction lies in the orb’s positioning. Instead of defeating the enemy with the orb embedded in its head, it now resides on Talus’ back. Provided you can attack the orb from behind, you can trigger Bind from any position. The fight’s conclusion might devolve into a test of endurance, particularly if Zelda hasn’t enhanced her Swordfighter Form at Lueberry’s. Persist in pulling on the orb and attacking it relentlessly, and it will eventually succumb.

Defeating the Fire Talus will reward Zelda with a Heart Piece and some Rupees. Upon returning to Darston at the cave’s entrance, he will bestow upon you the Goron’s Bracelet, which boosts your speed when carrying items. This marks the end of “A Mountainous Mystery.

Having either the Lynel Echo or the Darknut Level 3 Echo at your disposal could prove incredibly useful for this battle.
