The Elbaph Arc in the One Piece manga heavily features giants and draws inspiration from Norse mythology and culture. At its heart is Prince Loki, a character clearly influenced by the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s depiction of the god, complete with similar horns and a name rooted in Viking legends. Most notably, Loki possesses Ragnir, a weapon inspired by the legendary hammer Mjolnir. Ragnir is shaping up to be a hugely important weapon, not just within the Elbaph Arc, but potentially throughout the entire final saga of One Piece.

Readers have quickly seen how strong Ragnir is in One Piece, especially as one of the few characters with a Zoan-type Devil Fruit. There’s likely even more to its abilities than we’ve seen so far. Even if this is all Ragnir can do, it’s an incredibly powerful weapon when used by Loki. Luckily, Loki is now fighting alongside Luffy as a powerful Emperor, because Ragnir’s strength could overwhelm even the entire Straw Hat crew.
What Are Ragnir’s Abilities and Power Levels in One Piece?
Ragnir is a Blunt Instrument With Elemental Attacks
As a huge fan, I’ve been completely blown away by Ragnir! It’s so clear that Eiichiro Oda drew inspiration from mythology and pop culture when creating this weapon. Honestly, it feels like the next Mjolnir – you know, Thor’s hammer from Marvel – but Oda gives it such a unique One Piece spin that it’s way more than just a nod to another story. It’s familiar enough to get you excited, but Ragnir is capable of so much more than just creating another character like Thor. It’s deeply connected to the history and protection of Elbaph, and its powers really reflect that important role!
Wow, Ragnir is seriously powerful! From what we’ve seen in One Piece so far, it’s already incredibly strong, and I honestly think it’s still holding back. It’s not just a hammer, though – it ate a Zoan Devil Fruit and came to life! Now it’s this self-aware weapon protecting the legendary Devil Fruit treasure on Elbaph. The crazy thing is, Ragnir decides who’s worthy enough to even touch it, let alone wield it. We first saw just how strong it is when it battled Loki – it was an amazing display of power!
Back then, Prince Loki wielded a powerful battle hammer, but it broke when Ragnir attacked. Ragnir, in squirrel form, only got a minor bump on the head – a funny contrast! This highlights just how incredibly strong Loki is, considering he could hit Ragnir and still lose his own weapon. Later, King Harald, controlled by Imu, became obsessed with Ragnir’s power after witnessing it. Harald wasn’t strong enough to handle it, but the fact that even an immortal, powerful giant like him craved Ragnir’s abilities shows just how fearsome this squirrel truly is as a weapon.
Ragnir is an incredibly powerful and durable weapon, far surpassing even the strongest giants of legend, and dwarfs the strength of typical giants or pirate crews. Its abilities extend beyond sheer force, as demonstrated by Loki. Like Mjolnir, Ragnir allows its user to summon massive lightning storms, powerful enough to potentially destroy the massive Treasure Tree Adam of Elbaph. Recently, fans saw Loki use an ability called Niflheim to instantly freeze one of Ast. Killingham’s MMAs. Considering Elbaph’s connection to Norse mythology, this icy power feels natural for Ragnir, and it suggests Loki’s elemental attacks could become even stronger than those of the former Admiral Aokiji/Kuzan.
Ragnir Helps Loki Wield Two Devil Fruits at Once
Zoan-Type Weapons Expand the Possibilities of Devil Fruits
Image by Viz Media Ragnir is a remarkably powerful warhammer, almost impossible to destroy, with relentless attacks and the ability to harness elemental forces. While its size and strength would make it a threat in anyone’s hands, Ragnir is special because it possesses the powers of a Devil Fruit – a rare ability for an inanimate object. Only a few other items share this trait, like Cerberus, the sword used by Figarland Shamrock. This allows skilled fighters like Loki or Shamrock to combine their Haki, Devil Fruit powers (if they have any), and a powerful weapon all at once.
Currently, Captain Blackbeard is the only confirmed Devil Fruit user capable of wielding the power of two fruits simultaneously – the Dark-Dark and Tremor-Tremor Fruits. While it seems incredibly rare, certain weapons like Cerberus and Ragnir allow some fighters to effectively use the abilities of multiple fruits in battle. This means characters like Loki likely can’t eat two fruits, but if his hammer, Ragnir, contains the power of a Zoan-type fruit, he’d still be able to consume and use his own. The same possibility exists for Shamrock and Cerberus; if those weapons hold fruit powers, Shamrock would be free to eat a Devil Fruit as well.
Loki’s unique abilities, especially his possession of the giant hammer Ragnir, give him a significant advantage, even against incredibly powerful opponents like King Harald. As an ancient giant with a special weapon and the ability to use the powerful Elbaph Devil Fruit—which Ragnir once protected—he’s essentially a force to be reckoned with. It’s a remarkably strong combination of powers, almost like an unfair advantage, but it’s exciting to see him master both a Devil Fruit and the hammer. This level of power is exactly what One Piece needs to keep raising the stakes after characters like Kaido and the Five Emperors caused so much trouble for the Straw Hats, and it’s the kind of strength the giants will likely need to overthrow Imu and liberate the world.
