Following the recent 40th-anniversary announcement, excitement for Dragon Ball is surging, and fans are eager to see their favorite characters become even more powerful. Vegeta, a consistently popular character in the Dragon Ball series, has fans particularly hoping to see his ‘Ultra Ego’ transformation animated. While manga readers are already familiar with this incredibly powerful form Vegeta unlocks later in the story, those who only watch the anime haven’t seen it yet. In the anime, Vegeta is still using his Super Saiyan Blue form, while Goku has already achieved the powerful ‘Ultra Instinct’ transformation.
The upcoming Dragon Ball Super anime will introduce a new transformation for Vegeta, similar to Goku’s Ultra Instinct, but with a unique approach. This new power, called Ultra Ego, will make Vegeta a true match for Goku in strength, potentially even making him the strongest being in the universe.
What Is Vegeta’s Ultra Ego Transformation?
A Power Connected To The Gods of Destruction
To truly understand Ultra Ego, it’s important to know where it came from. The idea was first created by Toyotaro, the artist and writer of the Dragon Ball Super manga. He presented it to Akira Toriyama, the original creator of Dragon Ball, who gave it his approval, and it was then added to the story. The reason Vegeta needed a new transformation like Ultra Ego is straightforward. Goku had already achieved and was mastering Ultra Instinct. While Goku still had room to grow, Vegeta was falling behind. The story thrives on the rivalry between the two Saiyans, and it’s important that they both continue to get stronger at a similar pace. Therefore, Ultra Ego was crucial to the plot. It also gives Vegeta a unique path to power, distinct from Goku, as the underlying principles of their transformations are completely different.
In essence, Ultra Ego is a technique fueled by a Saiyan’s natural fighting spirit. Saiyans, as fans know, are a race that grows stronger with every battle. They become more powerful after recovering from injuries – a process often called Zenkai. This idea was central to the early days of Dragon Ball Z, and Ultra Ego perfectly embodies that strength.
To unlock the incredible power of Ultra Ego, Vegeta first had to master the Ultra Ego technique, which requires training under a God of Destruction. His training with Beerus allowed him to do just that, but even then, he needed the right destructive mindset to activate it. This mental state is crucial – similar to how Ultra Instinct demands a calm and relaxed focus, Ultra Ego won’t work without the proper, aggressive mindset.
The Powers Of Vegeta’s Ultra Ego
Vegeta’s Ultra Ego Allows Him To Use The Power Of Destruction
- Vegeta grows stronger with battle damage
- His overall power and efficiency keep growing
Ultra Ego’s power is straightforward: the more damage a fighter takes and enjoys taking, the stronger they become. Vegeta’s battle with Granola clearly demonstrated this – he grew more powerful as he was hurt. In theory, there’s no limit to how strong someone could become using this transformation. However, this isn’t actually ‘overpowered’ because a user’s body still has its limits. While Ultra Ego itself doesn’t have a ceiling, the fighter’s physical endurance does.
I’ve noticed Vegeta has his limits – he can only endure a certain amount of punishment before he’s really hurting, even if he doesn’t always show it. That’s why staying in peak condition and being able to take a serious beating are crucial for him to be effective.
Beyond its main drawback, Vegeta’s Ultra Ego allows him to steadily increase his power during a fight, unleashing even greater strength. This form taps into the energy of the Gods of Destruction, and manifests as a fiery aura that can obliterate incoming attacks – much like the Hakai technique fans have seen used by those gods in Dragon Ball Super.
Watching Vegeta train and fight, it’s become clear he’s accessing the same destructive energy as the Gods of Destruction. That means he can use techniques like Hakai, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has even more abilities hidden up his sleeve. What’s really interesting is his Ultra Ego form. Instead of dodging attacks, Vegeta actually wants to be hit! He seems to grow stronger and more aware with every blow he takes, letting him counterattack with incredible power and easily overpower his opponents – as long as he doesn’t take too much damage, of course.
Vegeta will continue to get stronger over time, and his Ultra Ego form will reach even greater heights. Each battle he survives increases his stamina and resistance to damage, meaning this form has incredible potential and may not even have a limit for a Saiyan using it.
How Strong Is Ultra Ego Vegeta?
A Perfect Rival For Ultra Instinct Goku
Vegeta’s Ultra Ego form makes him one of the most powerful characters in the Dragon Ball series. The manga suggests that Ultra Ego is comparable to Goku’s Ultra Instinct, though they function in very different ways – almost as complete opposites. Vegeta demonstrated this power by successfully battling Granola, who was then considered the strongest being in the universe, proving just how effective and powerful Ultra Ego is.
Despite Vegeta’s Ultra Ego transformation, he isn’t currently the strongest character. Several fighters could defeat him, as demonstrated in the Granola arc and subsequent events. Black Frieza, for instance, easily overpowered Vegeta. Even Goku, with his more refined Ultra Instinct technique, has a good chance of winning against Vegeta, since he’s had much more practice mastering that power.
Vegeta’s tendency to get carried away in battle and lose track of his surroundings is a clear weakness that opponents can exploit. Though he isn’t currently the strongest character, he’s finally found a solid foundation for growth, which is what fans are most excited to see as the story unfolds.
