Logitech has crammed a multitude of features into a single device with the new Astro A50, giving users the ability to utilize their proprietary LIGHTSPEED technology and PLAYSYNC Audio systems.

In simpler terms, the Astro A50’s wireless connection works incredibly quickly, and with its advanced base station, you can link it to three devices simultaneously. By tapping a sensitive button, you can easily switch between these connected devices – it’s truly remarkable.

The Astro A50 Wireless Gen 5 headset typically costs around $300, placing it among the pricier gaming headsets available. However, let me assure you that its premium quality justifies the expense. From its broadcast-quality omnidirectional microphone to its Pro-G Graphene drivers, every aspect of this Astro A50 Gen 5 headset oozes quality.

The A50 weighs only 363 grams, making its bulky appearance deceptive. Despite its size, it seems much heavier, but you can comfortably wear it for extended periods without feeling tired. Regardless of the game you’re playing, you’ll enjoy precise spatial sound and benefit from incredibly comfortable ear cushions around your ears and top of your head.

As a gamer who’s notorious for forgetting where I leave my wireless accessories, I must admit, the magnetic charging dock for Astro A50 has been a game-changer. Unlike other devices that end up lost or drained, this one always finds its way back home – the magnet ensures it sits neatly on a shelf. The satisfaction of clicking the headset into place is hard to beat!

The indicators on the main device are very useful, indeed. While you’re wearing the headphones, a quick look at the base unit can inform you about the battery level. With up to 24 hours of playtime when fully charged, it’s challenging to drain the headphones, which is great news!

A challenge I face is that my PlayStation and Xbox consoles are situated on the opposite side of the room from my computer, making it difficult to connect them to the main unit without using an extremely long USB-C cable. As a result, I can’t fully utilize the PLAYSYNC technology, but since my primary intention for purchasing this was specifically for PC games, it doesn’t significantly impact my decision.

Across all devices, you’ll find similar audio mixing functionalities to MixAmp, and for enhanced spatial sound quality, you can utilize Dolby Atmos or PlayStation 3D Audio on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

The Astro A50 Gen 5 performs exceptionally well on PC, taking advantage of the G Hub software for comprehensive customization (the G App serves a purpose elsewhere), and providing 24-bit audio as standard without any need to concern yourself with the HDMI 2.1 AV passthrough prerequisite.

In games like Escape from Tarkov, where every sound is crucial, I noticed I became more adept at identifying footsteps and audio signals. The directional precision was truly exceptional, standing out among others. Regarding headsets, I’ve tried many, but the Astro A50 Gen 5 undeniably ranks as the best in class.
