Metaphor: ReFantazio | How long to beat

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that Metaphor: ReFantazio is a game that will keep you engaged for quite some time. Coming from Atlus, known for their lengthy and immersive RPGs like Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, it’s no surprise that this title follows suit.

You might anticipate that Metaphor: ReFantazio is an extensive game, but let me clarify, the duration to complete it is considerable. Typically, Atlus games aren’t the type you can quickly conquer within a weekend or even a week, and Metaphor: ReFantazio follows this pattern. In simpler terms, expect a substantial investment of time if you decide to tackle this game.

Even though it’s not named Persona, the most recent game developed by Atlus shows similarities with the series and Shin Megami Tensei. As such, wondering about how long it takes to complete Metaphor: ReFantazio, particularly for new fans, is quite appropriate.

How long to beat Metaphor: ReFantazio?

Essentially, the primary determinant of how long it takes you to conquer Metaphor: ReFantazio is your playing style. Completing the game in less than 65 hours requires you to bypass every cut-scene and quickly navigate through all the text, which seems counterproductive since why would one want to miss out on the story?

As a gamer, I clocked in at around 70 hours during my initial playthrough of Metaphor: ReFantazio. I managed to max out all social links and bring each Royal Virtue up to level 5. However, there were still a few areas left unexplored – the Coliseum battles and two of the super-boss side quests. So, if you’re wondering how long it takes to complete everything Metaphor: ReFantazio has to offer, you might want to tack on a bit more time to your play schedule.

Another team member noticed they had spent around 65 hours on the project, whereas our most curious colleague, who tends to delve deeper than the rest of us, clocked closer to 90 hours when wrapping up. As you might notice, this task’s completion time can differ quite a bit.

It’s important to mention that it’s extremely challenging to fully develop all Archetypes during a single gameplay session due to various elements within the game design. We won’t reveal the reasons here, but the game has been intentionally structured for multiple playthroughs to allow for unlocking and maximizing each Archetype.

Any other factors to consider?

In simpler terms, if you’re trying to speed through the game, you might save some time, but since it follows a calendar system like the Persona series, you can’t just force your way through. It’s also not a game where you can grind levels excessively, although there are methods available. The later dungeons will still scale to your character level regardless.

During our extended gameplay of over 70 hours, we tackled every side-quest we encountered, except for a mere pair. We intentionally skipped two optional underground dungeons. However, the colosseum offers an opportunity to prolong your gaming experience, so you can stretch it further by participating in these arenas.

So there you have it, now you know how long to beat Metaphor: ReFantazio.
