Overwatch is Adding 5 New Heroes Next Week to Kick Off Massive Comeback

Overwatch is getting a big update in 2026! The game will drop the “2” from its name and change how seasons and story content are delivered. After Season 20 ends, Overwatch will introduce a new way of storytelling. Each year will have one continuous story, with each season adding a piece to it. This means the season count will reset annually, starting with Season 1 and the beginning of the “Reign of Talon” story arc.

I can’t believe Overwatch is almost ten years old! Blizzard is really going all out to celebrate, and it’s huge news that they’re changing things up with a new story arc. They’re planning to add a whopping ten new heroes over the next year – five will be available right away, and then one new hero with each season throughout 2026 during this ‘Reign of Talon’ storyline. It’s awesome to see them continuing to support the game and add fresh content!

On February 10th, a year-long story called The Reign of Talon begins in Overwatch. This is the first of six planned story seasons that will unfold throughout 2026. A new trailer reveals a power struggle within Talon, where Vendetta has taken over leadership from Doomfist. With this change, Talon has become more powerful and has launched an attack on Overwatch at their Gibraltar base, marking the start of The Reign of Talon storyline.

New Heroes Launching with Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 1

  • Domina — Tank (Talon-aligned)
  • Emre — Damage (Talon-aligned)
  • Mizuki — Support (Talon-aligned)
  • Anran — Damage (Overwatch-aligned)
  • Jetpack Cat — Support (Overwatch-aligned)

The first season of Reign of Talon will introduce five new heroes, including three who support Talon and two who side with Overwatch. Domina, a new Tank hero and the heir to Vishkar Industries, excels at long-range engagements, much like Sigma. Fans will also meet Emre, a Damage hero who’s a highly mobile soldier struggling with the effects of cybernetic enhancements. Completing the Talon lineup is Mizuki, a Support hero and member of the Hashimoto Clan.

In Overwatch, Wuyang fights alongside his sister, Anran, focusing on powerful, close-range fire attacks. A particularly exciting new hero is Jetpack Cat, who Brigitte has welcomed into the Overwatch team after much anticipation.

From February 5th to February 10th, players will have a chance to try out Anran in a special Hero Trial before the new season begins.

Gameplay Updates Coming to Overwatch in Reign of Talon Season 1

I’m so hyped for Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 1! Not only are we getting five new heroes, but Blizzard is really improving the game overall. They’re giving the whole user interface a fresh look, and even changing the icons in Stadium. Plus, they’re adding something called Hero Builder which is awesome – it’ll suggest builds for you based on what other players are doing, making it easier to jump in and be effective. Oh, and Vendetta is joining the Stadium lineup too! It’s all sounding amazing.

We’re also making changes to how heroes function in the game. We’re adding more specific roles within each hero type, and giving them unique abilities tied to those specific roles. Here’s a look at the new role options:

  • Tank
    • Bruiser: Reduces critical damage received. While at critical health, gain movement speed.
    • Initiator: Staying airborne lightly heals you.
    • Stalwart: Reduces knockbacks and slows received.
  • Damage
    • Sharpshooter: Critical hits reduce your movement ability cooldowns.
    • Flanker: Health packs restore more health.
    • Specialist: Eliminating an enemy briefly increases your reload speed.
    • Recon: You detect enemies below half health through walls after damaging them.
  • Support
    • Tactician: You can gain excess ultimate charge which carries over after using your ultimate ability.
    • Medic: Healing allies with your weapon also heals you.
    • Survivor: Using a movement ability activates passive health regeneration.

The launch of Overwatch’s Reign of Talon Season 1 will bring a lot of new cosmetic items to the game. Players can participate in the Conquest Meta Event, choosing to support either Talon or Overwatch in a player-versus-player conflict. Weekly rewards will be given based on how well each side is doing. There will also be new Mythic skins – one for Mercy and others for Juno and Mei – plus a fun collaboration with Hello Kitty & Friends, bringing Sanrio-themed looks to several heroes.
