How to Fast Travel & Access World Map inDragon Quest 7 Reimagined

Navigating the world of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can be challenging, especially for players new to the Dragon Quest series. Understanding how fast travel works isn’t immediately obvious, and the game doesn’t clearly explain how to use the Zoom ability or where to find the fast travel menu.

This guide explains how to use fast travel in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined. It also covers accessing the world map and using teleporters to get around.

How To Use Fast Travel & Access World Map in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined

Okay, so if you want to fast travel in Dragon Quest 7, it’s pretty simple. You need to open up the World Map, and then my character uses this ability called ‘Zoom’. Basically, it lets me jump around the world quickly. Here’s how I do it, step-by-step…

  1. Open the World Map using X (PC), X (Switch/Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S).
  2. Navigate through already discovered areas using WASD (PC) or left stick (consoles).
  3. Now, select a location, then ‘Zoom’ (Spacebar on PC, A (Xbox, Switch/Switch 2), and Triangle (PS5).

A cutscene will play, and the main character and their companions will be teleported to the correct location.

Okay, so here’s the deal with fast travel – or ‘Zoom’ as we call it. You can only Zoom to places you’ve already been to, either in the past or present. If you haven’t discovered a location yet, it’ll be greyed out on the map and you won’t be able to fast travel there. Basically, explore first, then Zoom!

During key moments in the story, some fast travel locations might temporarily disappear. We don’t want to spoil anything, but if you can’t fast travel to a certain spot, it’s likely because you’re near an important story event that needs to play out, or you haven’t discovered that location yet.

Okay, so here’s the deal: those areas you unlock through the Shrine of Mysteries – I’m calling them ‘The Past’ for short – and the islands that appear after you finish a main story event on each island are treated as totally separate fast travel spots. Basically, after you’ve been to the Past and back, you’ll need to go back and re-explore the islands in the present to unlock fast travel on them again. It’s a little annoying, but you gotta do it!
