Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse Announced; Release Date Set For February 2026

I often recommend Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo when I’m with friends or coworkers who enjoy horror games. It’s a fantastic visual novel and one of my all-time favorites, but I feel like it doesn’t get the attention it deserves.

Though it came out in 2023, this game was a bit lost in the excitement surrounding Alan Wake 2 (which is understandable, as that game is fantastic). Still, it stood out to me as the best horror game of the year because of its expertly crafted story, unexpected plot twists, and unique gameplay that playfully interacts with the player.

I was totally shocked and thrilled when they suddenly announced a sequel during the Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase this Thursday, February 5th! It was completely out of the blue, and I couldn’t have been happier.

A New Japanese Tale of Curses and Legends

Square Enix announced that Paranormasight is now an established series for the company! A new installment, called Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse, is already in development and will be released sooner than fans anticipated.

The story now moves to Ise-Shima, Japan, a beautiful area known for its mermaid folklore and intriguing secrets that you’ll need to uncover.

Just like the original, you’ll play as multiple characters to solve a mysterious supernatural puzzle. The game lets you switch between their stories to uncover the truth. Plus, the graphics are stunning, with a dark, comic book-inspired style.

The trailer suggests players will explore the case from multiple viewpoints and make choices that lead to an exciting ending. If it’s similar to the first game, it promises to be a really captivating experience! You can watch the atmospheric announcement trailer here:

The most exciting news was the release date – Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse will be available in just two weeks, on February 19, 2026. You’ll be able to play it on Nintendo Switch, PC (through Steam), and both iOS and Android mobile devices.
