As a gamer with years of MMO experience under my belt, I can confidently say that Square Enix has been consistently stepping up their game with each major update for Final Fantasy 14. The upcoming Patch 7.1, Crossroads, is no exception. With two new Alliance Raid challenges and a host of features tailored to both veterans and newcomers, it’s shaping up to be an exciting time for the game.
Over the past 11 years, since the re-launch of Final Fantasy 14, this highly praised MMORPG has been making significant efforts to make the game user-friendly for a wide range of players. With each major update for Final Fantasy 14, Square Enix works tirelessly to enhance or completely revamp features that were once seen as outdated or neglected.
Starting mid-November, the massively popular MMORPG “Final Fantasy 14” will roll out its significant update, dubbed “Crossroads”. This is the first major content release since the launch of “Dawntrail” in July. So, mark your calendars for November 12th and 19th as potential dates for this update to be released. For level 100 players, the Crossroads update promises a wealth of new content, including two fresh Alliance Raid challenges and concluding some loose ends from “Dawntrail’s” main storyline.
The Hall of the Novice Is Getting Much-Needed Attention
The Hall of Novices is designed to educate fresh players of Final Fantasy 14 about adhering to their party duties, much like other MMOs such as World of Warcraft. In Final Fantasy 14, roles are categorized into Tank, Healer, and DPS (Damage Per Second) to define the function a specific Job can perform. For instance, the White Mage is a Healer who can swiftly heal wounds with spells like Cure and Medica or use offensive spells such as Glare and Holy to aid their team in ending fights more quickly. Those who successfully complete tutorials for at least one Role will receive a new Ring as a reward, which bestows additional experience to all Jobs up to level 30.
As Final Fantasy 14 progressively added more complex mechanics, each with distinct visual indicators, the Hall of the Novice struggled to maintain its original role. From Patch 7.1 onwards, the Hall of the Novice is due for a significant update. Upon the launch of the Crossroads expansion, players at level 49 or above will gain access to an optional tutorial designed specifically to help with understanding various visual markers that appear in advanced instances.
As a newbie gamer diving into Final Fantasy 14, one tricky aspect I’ve learned to navigate is understanding the “stack marker.” This attack distributes its damage based on how many players are standing on it, so it’s crucial not to stand alone near it or risk getting knocked out. Additionally, there will be other markers that need us to spread out across the battlefield or are meant for specific roles like Tanks. The updated Hall of the Novice will teach us these skills, and we’ll receive a new reward upon completion, but I can’t reveal what it is just yet!
The Duty Support System Will Include Non-Story Dungeons
In the upcoming Patch 7.1, I’m excited about the expansion of the Hall of the Novice that allows me to run dungeons with up to three NPC companions using the Duty Support system. This system was thoughtfully created for Final Fantasy 14 players who prefer to tackle some story content alone or those who might feel apprehensive when interacting with others. As a development from the Trust system introduced in Shadowbringers, the Duty Support system has been expanded across Endwalker, now including dungeons from A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood.
Starting from Patch 7.05, all storyline-essential dungeons can now be completed using the Duty Support feature. In Patch 7.1, additional non-mandatory dungeons will become available through this system, starting with Halatali, a level 20 dungeon. With the introduction of Duty Support, the boss fights in Halatali may undergo adjustments and potentially include simplified mechanisms for players to figure out. As more optional dungeons are added to the Duty Support system in the future, we’ll have to wait and see what they will be.
