As a long-time fan with over a decade of Yakuza games under my belt, I can confidently say that the return of “Majima Everywhere” in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii would be nothing short of a masterstroke. The original system was a delightful twist on the traditional RPG formula, forcing players to engage in countless battles against the unpredictable and tenacious Majima.
In the upcoming game “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii“, Goro Majima, who often switches between antagonist and ally, assumes the lead role. Stricken with amnesia, he fervently believes himself to be a pirate captain, striving to make the Goro Pirates the most formidable crew in all of Hawaii. Notably, aspects from previous installments such as Dragon Kart, Crazy Delivery, and karaoke are expected to reappear in “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii“. This game presents an opportune moment to reinstate a popular feature that has been absent for a while: the beloved “Majima Everywhere”.
What Is Majima Everywhere?
In the original Yakuza game, I found myself utterly fascinated with Goro Majima’s intense desire to square off against Kazuma Kiryu, a former inmate who had just been released from prison. To my mind, Kiryu represented the ultimate adversary, someone capable of delivering an unparalleled fight. Consequently, I issued challenges to Kiryu for a battle on numerous occasions throughout our shared journey within the game.
In the remake of the initial Yakuza game titled Yakuza Kiwami, they introduced a feature called “Majima Everywhere.” This system essentially made it so that the Mad Dog of Shimano, Majima, would appear more frequently throughout the game, catching Kiryu off guard. He could show up at random moments during the game, whether he was strolling the streets of Tokyo or disguising himself as a police officer, dancer, zombie, or even a traffic cone to surprise Kiryu unexpectedly.
Players often had to battle Majima multiple times due to the fact that he was the sole method for enhancing their Dragon fighting style within the game. The “Majima Everywhere” system was a favorite among fans, resulting in numerous instances of Majima appearing unexpectedly – from being edited into different video games and television programs, to hiding in renowned images, or even time-traveling to participate in historic battles depicted in iconic scenes.
Giving Majima His Own “Everywhere” Opponent Would Bring Things Full Circle
In the realm of Yakuza, stepping into the shoes of the iconic character Goro Majima is a dream come true, especially since he takes center stage as the sole protagonist in “Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.” A delightful throwback to his debut, it’d be fantastic if this game featured an adversary who could be found “Everywhere,” subtly echoing the original Majima Everywhere concept.
- Kazuma Kiryu, which would truly bring things full circle
- Ichiban Kasuga, who could have returned to Hawaii after the events of Infinite Wealth
- One of Infinite Wealth‘s new Hawaii-based party members, such as Eric Tomizawa
- Majima’s friends Saejima and Dojima, possibly trying to restore his memory
- A new pirate character who sees Majima as the “ultimate opponent” just as Majima did Kiryu
Incorporating a “Majima Everywhere”-style feature in the game titled “Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” could make an engaging experience for players, as it lets Majima switch between his classic “Mad Dog” and novel “Sea Dog” combat styles. This feature would help players familiarize themselves with his new weapons and moves. It’s also a delightful nod to the past, reminiscent of something not seen since the original Yakuza game (or its remake). Moreover, it’s a fighting scenario that Majima, who loves combat, would surely enjoy as the Mad Dog of Shimano would never pass up the chance to face a formidable and exhilarating adversary.
