Jujutsu Kaisen: Is Hakari Really Stronger Than Yuta?

The anime Jujutsu Kaisen is currently focusing on a very important story arc. With the Culling Game about to begin, Yuji and his friends are searching for powerful allies to help them defeat Kenjaku. Kinji Hakari is one sorcerer they believe could be a key player.

In the third episode of Season 3, Maki sends Yuji and Megumi on a mission to recruit Hakari to their side. Yuta mentions that Hakari is incredibly powerful, even stronger than himself, but Maki doesn’t believe it. This has led fans to speculate about just how strong Hakari is – could he be one of the most powerful characters in Jujutsu Kaisen?

How Strong is Kinji Hakari?

Kinji Hakari is a third-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High who is currently on suspension. When Yuji and Megumi first encounter him, they find he’s running a fight club where sorcerers battle using only hand-to-hand combat, without any cursed techniques. After Yuji defeats Panda, Hakari becomes interested in him and asks to meet. Hakari seems to highly value strong emotions and dedication – what he calls ‘fever’ – believing everyone has an inner drive that motivates them to change. For Hakari, that drive is gambling, a fitting passion considering the nature of his cursed technique.

Hakari’s Strengths and Cursed Technique

Hakari is a highly skilled student at Jujutsu High, and it shows in his fighting ability. He’s particularly strong in close combat, as demonstrated when he injured Yuji during their fight. Beyond his physical prowess, Hakari is also very clever, using his intelligence to overcome powerful enemies like Charles Bernard and the resurrected Hajime Kashimo.

Hakari is considered one of the most powerful characters in the series thanks to his incredible luck and his Domain Expansion, “Idle Death Gamble.” This expansion manifests as a pachinko machine themed after the romance manga “Private Pure Love Train.” Inside the domain, Hakari aims to win a jackpot by aligning three matching symbols, each represented by a character from the manga.

When Hakari wins a jackpot, he becomes incredibly resilient, gaining an endless supply of cursed energy that automatically heals any injuries. While the chance of hitting a jackpot is normally quite low—about one in 239—Hakari says he’s always been able to win within thirty attempts.

How Strong is Yuta Okkotsu?

Yuta Okkotsu is an exceptionally powerful sorcerer, ranked among the very best – a ‘Special Grade’ like Satoru Gojo, Suguru Geto, and Yuki Tsukumo. This ranking is reserved for those with abilities far beyond the norm, meaning Yuta is capable of immense destruction. This makes him one of the strongest individuals not just at Jujutsu High, but within the entire world of jujutsu sorcery.

Yuta’s Strengths and Cursed Techniques

Yuta inherited a massive amount of cursed energy from his ancestor, Michizane Sugawara. This natural power unintentionally cursed Rika when she died, transforming her into a strong cursed spirit. In the movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Yuta and Rika successfully defeated the formidable Suguru Geto, who had even called Rika “The Queen of Curses”. Remarkably, even after Rika’s spirit was freed, it continued to watch over Yuta, driven by her enduring affection for him.

Rika significantly boosts Yuta’s power by providing him with a vast supply of cursed energy and access to cursed tools she holds within her. Crucially, she enables him to use his unique ability, Copy, which lets him replicate the cursed techniques of sorcerers Rika has absorbed. Yuta’s Biggest Strength

Yuta received a massive power-up in chapter 261 of the manga. After Rika absorbed Kenjaku’s body, Yuta gained the ability to perform a Brain Transplant. Desperate to defeat Sukuna, Yuta took control of Satoru Gojo’s body, inheriting all of Gojo’s powerful cursed techniques. This transformation allowed Yuta to use incredibly strong abilities like Lapse: Blue, Hollow Technique: Purple, and even Gojo’s domain expansion, “Unlimited Void.” Eventually, when Kenjaku’s power faded, Rika helped Yuta return to his original body.

Who is Stronger: Yuta or Hakari?

Both Hakari and Yuta are incredibly powerful fighters. When Hakari enters his Jackpot state, he appears nearly invincible, and he can repeatedly trigger this state, becoming stronger as the battle continues. However, Yuta operates on a different scale altogether. Even before inheriting Gojo’s body, his vast power and diverse techniques suggested he could overcome Hakari. Beyond his combat skills and cursed tools, Yuta also has Rika, who grants him immense strength.

Although a fight between them probably won’t happen, Yuta appears to have the advantage. However, Hakari’s fans shouldn’t be discouraged, as he still has the potential to become strong enough to challenge Yuta.

Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen won’t have to wait much longer to see Hakari fight. If he’s as powerful in the anime as he is in the manga, it’s going to be an incredible battle.
