The original Pokémon anime, much like the games and manga, features a wide variety of fascinating Pokémon. From Ditto, which can transform into anything, to Absol, who can predict disasters, each Pokémon captivates the characters with its special abilities. The anime also emphasizes that every Pokémon has hidden potential and isn’t truly weak.
Some Pokémon are much stronger than others. While many of the most powerful are Legendary Pokémon, capable of incredible feats, even non-Legendary Pokémon can achieve lasting fame and importance.
Ash’s Pikachu Is Extraordinarily Strong
The Heroic Mouse Pokémon Has Grown a Lot
Pikachu grew up in the wilderness, raised by a Kangaskhan. Professor Oak captured him shortly after he evolved, and then introduced him to Ash Ketchum, who became his Trainer. At first, Pikachu didn’t trust humans, so their relationship was difficult. But after Ash saved him from a flock of wild birds, Pikachu began to trust him.
From that day forward, Ash and Pikachu became inseparable. Pikachu’s power is exceptional, even without evolving, far exceeding that of a typical Pikachu. He never gives up, no matter how difficult the battle, and always stands by his friends. Beyond his incredible strength – enough to even defeat Legendary Pokémon – Pikachu is well-known for using his Thunderbolt attack to send Team Rocket flying whenever they cause problems.
The Unown Created a Unique Entei
This Pokemon Acted as a “Parent” to Molly
Unown are Psychic-type Pokémon known for their enigmatic nature, despite not being Legendary or Mythical. The Pokédex suggests these ancient, symbol-shaped Pokémon can unleash surprising power when they work as a group. This is vividly demonstrated in Pokémon 3: The Movie, where a lonely girl named Molly Hale unintentionally calls upon a massive group of Unown. They transform her house into a fantastical, yet unsettling, castle of dreams and nightmares. Longing for her father, Molly unknowingly has the Unown create a unique version of the Legendary Pokémon Entei to fill that role, and Entei willingly takes on the part.
Because Entei was devoted to Molly, it fulfilled all of her requests, even going so far as to kidnap Ash Ketchum’s mother when Molly wished for a new one. This led to a huge fight between Ash’s Charizard and Entei, a legendary Pokémon whose attacks, like Flamethrower, were unusually powerful. When the Unown’s power started to destroy the palace and the surrounding area, Entei fought against the creatures that gave it power, trying to protect Molly. Ultimately, Entei was victorious and said goodbye to Molly before vanishing.
Rayquaza Is the Most Formidable of the Super-Ancient Pokemon
The Sky High Pokémon Can Quell the Fury of Kyogre and Groudon

Long ago, Groudon, the Pokémon representing the land, and Kyogre, the Pokémon representing the sea, clashed in a devastating battle. As natural rivals, they were focused only on winning, without considering the damage they could cause. Just when the Hoenn region was about to be destroyed, Rayquaza, a powerful Pokémon from the sky, intervened and stopped their fight. Afterward, Rayquaza returned to the upper atmosphere, leaving everyone below amazed and stunned.
Rayquaza first appeared in the movie Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys, where it tried to eliminate Deoxys, seeing it as a danger. Since then, different versions of Rayquaza, including its Mega Evolved form, have been featured in the original Pokémon animated series and the newer Pokémon Horizons: The Series – the latter showcasing a shiny Rayquaza. Rayquaza also played a central part in the Pokémon Generations episode “The Scoop,” which retold the story of the Delta Episode from the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire games. In that episode, Mega Rayquaza, the only super-ancient Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution, destroyed the massive Grand Meteor Delta and then battled the wild Deoxys hidden inside.

Mewtwo Once Waged War Against Humanity
Every Version of Mewtwo Possesses Extraordinary Powers
For ages, the legendary Pokémon Mew has remained hidden and mysterious. When Team Rocket discovers an ancient artifact with Mew’s genetic material, they attempt to create a powerful clone. Though the experiment works, the clone, Mewtwo, becomes resentful of being treated as a mere weapon and escapes. Believing humans are a destructive force, Mewtwo vows to destroy them and any Pokémon who side with them.
Mewtwo intended to create a massive battle between the Pokémon of trainers and its own clone army. During this conflict, Mewtwo fought Mew, who tried to convince it that its actions were wrong. Mewtwo is well-known in stories for its incredible strength and aggressive nature, stemming from a lonely past. A different version of Mewtwo appears in Pokémon Origins, where it manages to defeat all of Red’s Pokémon except for his Mega Charizard X.
Arceus Acts as the Deity of the Pokemon World
A Wise Being Knows Never To Anger the Alpha Pokémon
Arceus is a central figure in the Pokémon story, particularly in the Sinnoh region, and is considered the creator of the entire Pokémon universe. Legend says Arceus created the legendary lake guardians and the three mythical Pokémon. It was also Arceus who imprisoned Giratina due to its misdeeds. With seemingly limitless power, Arceus could reshape or even destroy the universe, making it a powerful ally and a dangerous enemy.
A similar event happens in the movie Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life. Feeling betrayed by people, Arceus demonstrates its immense power and then falls into a long sleep, eventually waking up in the present day. The movie makes it clear that battling Arceus directly isn’t possible due to its overwhelming strength. Instead, the heroes team up with Dialga to travel back in time and try to stop the events that led to the crisis.
