Konami is releasing a new soccer game called Kick-Off! for the Nintendo Switch 2 this summer. This is the first time a game in the eFootball series has been specifically made for, or even brought to, a Nintendo console.
Nintendo recently announced both a new anime soccer game, Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters, and the return of Kick-Off! for the Switch. While both games are expected around the same time, they offer very different gameplay experiences. World Fighters is a more fantastical and action-packed take on soccer, while Kick-Off! aims for a realistic soccer simulation.
eFootball Is Finally Coming to the Switch 2
So, Nintendo just dropped some news in their February Direct – they’re making a new eFootball game called Kick-Off! specifically for the Switch 2! I’m super excited because it’s coming out in the summer of 2026. They’re focusing on modes like World Tour and the International Cup, which sound awesome. And of course, it’ll have both offline play for chilling with friends and online competitive matches, just like we’re used to in eFootball. Can’t wait to get on the pitch!
Fans have observed that the trailer for Kick-Off! appears to be a shorter version of the free-to-play game eFootball available on other systems. It looks like some game modes are absent, leading to speculation that Kick-Off! might be a simpler, focused experience created for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. However, we’ll need more information to confirm if Kick-Off! will indeed be a smaller version of the game.
Fans Want to Know If Kick-Off! Will Be a Free-to-Play Game
Image via Konami I’m still trying to figure out if eFootball Kick-Off! will be free to play on the new Nintendo Switch 2. As a long-time fan, I remember when the game was still Pro Evolution Soccer, and then Konami switched to a free-to-play model back in 2021. Now that the Switch 2 is coming out, everyone’s wondering if Konami will keep it free, or if they’ll finally make us pay for the game again.

It hasn’t been officially announced, but many think charging for Kick-Off! would be a mistake. The game doesn’t seem much different from the free version in terms of how it looks or plays. Plus, it would be hard to ask players to pay for it on one device when it’s free on almost everything else.
Some eFootball Kick-Off! Modes Won’t Be Available at Launch
Switch 2 soccer fans should know the International Cup mode won’t be available when the game first comes out – it’ll be added later as downloadable content. This has led many to believe the main game might be free to download and play, with Konami planning to make money through small in-game purchases instead of a traditional upfront cost.
Image via Konami The International Cup in the game is like the real-life FIFA World Cup. Since the next World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the game developers, Konami, might add a similar event to Kick-Off! However, we’ll have to wait for an official announcement to know for sure.
The trailer suggests that eFootball Kick-Off! will only be available digitally on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Possible Release Date for eFootball Kick-Off
Image via Konami The new eFootball game, Kick-Off!, is confirmed to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 in summer 2026. While some fans hope it will arrive in June to coincide with the FIFA World Cup, Konami has usually released eFootball updates in August or September, making that a likely release window as well.
