Yokai Soul Core Guide In Nioh 3 (How To Get And Use)

Yokai Soul Cores are small, pulsing red orbs dropped by defeated demons in Nioh 3. Players use these cores to improve their abilities or summon yokai. Here’s a guide on how to obtain and utilize Yokai Soul Cores in Nioh 3.

Yokai Soul Core Guide In Nioh 3

Once you defeat a yokai and obtain its soul core, take it to any Shrine to purify it. Your collected soul cores are kept safe in the Onmyo Box, but you can only equip or unequip them at a Shrine. Be careful! If you die with an unpurified core, you’ll lose it, and you’ll need to retrieve it along with your Amrita when you respawn.

Yokai cores come in two types: Yang and Yin. Placing a core in the Yang slot lets you briefly summon the yokai to fight alongside you using a Summoning Seal. A core in the Yin slot gives you a special Onmyo Magic Item that can either strengthen your character or damage enemies. You can only use each yokai core in one position, unless you have another identical core.

Soul cores each have unique benefits, but you need to reach a certain magic level to unlock them.

You can equip multiple cores in the Yin position, but you’ll need to increase your Magic stat first. This will also boost your Onmyo Magic Power.

Once you’ve selected the yokai soul core you want, remember to add the Summoning Seal and any Onmyo Magic Items to your quick access wheel so you can use them during fights.

Occasionally, players can only use a soul core when in the Yin position. This is because unlocking the Summoning Seal requires defeating a special, stronger version of the yokai called a Crucible Wraith. While you won’t know exactly which Wraith you’ll face, their locations are shown on the map. These Crucible Wraiths are more challenging than regular yokai, and defeating one will also improve your Onmyo Magic Item.

How To Get Yokai Soul Cores In Nioh 3

When you defeat a demon, you’ll sometimes receive a yokai soul core at random. You can improve your chances of getting one by equipping items with the ‘Soul Core Drop Rate’ bonus. Stronger demons, like the Crucible Wraith or those found in the Dark Realm, are guaranteed to drop a soul core every time.

You can find and defeat powerful bosses called Formidable Enemies to earn valuable rewards, like their Yokai Soul Core. These bosses appear on the map as golden boxes.

When you beat challenging bosses during the main story, you’ll earn powerful yokai soul cores – like the one from Jakotsu-Baba – that you can use right away in either the Yang or Yin slot.

You can also obtain soul cores from helpful yokai such as Chijiko and Scampus, and you can even summon these yokai to fight alongside you in battles.

How To Use Yokai Soul Cores In Nioh 3

To call upon a yokai, select the Summoning Seal from your quick menu, and the demon will briefly appear to assist you.

Onmyo Magic Items can be used in two ways: to attack enemies or to benefit your own character. You select them from the shortcut wheel to use.

Players will eventually be able to accept quests from the NPC in the safe zone. Completing these quests through the Battle Scroll lets you improve your yokai soul cores using Soul Fragments. If you have soul cores you don’t need, you can use Resting Rites to break them down into the fragments you need.
