As players advance through The Warring States portion of Nioh 3, the story will take them to the Heian Era, a challenging new setting. This area is filled with tough enemies and bosses that must be defeated to continue. The Heian Era begins with a tutorial-like island area, culminating in a difficult boss fight. While there aren’t any brand new gameplay mechanics to master, players must complete this area to unlock the rest of the game.
Similar to a strategy map, this tool helps you keep track of important items, valuable resources, and places to find loot like Amrita. You can also mark locations of Crucible Wraiths and nigitama. Best of all, you can choose which categories to display, making it easy to focus on what you’re looking for.

What To Focus On In The Heian Era Of Nioh 3
Similar to the Warring States map, the Heian Era is a large, open area divided into zones, each with a suggested player level. After completing the initial part of Mount Kurama, a character will guide you to Kamo Village, where your main adventure across the map begins. Here’s a breakdown of each zone in the Heian Era and the levels we recommend for tackling them:
- Kamo Village (Recommended Level 57 Minimum)
- Funaokayama (Recommended Level 59 Minimum)
- Sagano (Recommended Level 62 Minimum)
- Nishiichi (Recommended Level 66 Minimum)
- Awawa no Tsuji (Recommended Level 66 Minimum)
- Hachijo (Recommended Level 73 Minimum)
- Rokuhara (Recommended Level 77 Minimum)
- Palace Grounds (Recommended Level 86 Minimum)
The enemies in this area can be quite challenging, featuring new and agile creatures that hit hard. To survive, players should prioritize having plenty of health and armor to withstand their powerful attacks, especially those from the bosses you’ll face while working to advance the main story. On the bright side, there are many opportunities to collect Amrita from defeated enemies, through side quests, and by finding hidden Amrita throughout the area. If you’re short on resources, you can always go back to The Warring States Era to collect anything you might have missed.
Now that you’ve rescued enough Kodama for a good supply of Elixirs, focus on collecting Amrita and Skill Points to improve your abilities. Also, find and defeat roaming Chijiko to unlock special weapon skills. Take some time to level up, earn money, and dismantle unwanted gear and Souls to strengthen your weapons. It’s best to reach at least level 86 before starting the final section of Nioh 3.
