6 Strongest Dragon Ball Super Characters With the Most Potential, Ranked

In Dragon Ball, a character’s potential is even more crucial than their current strength. While Goku and Vegeta are incredibly powerful, they’ve reached that level through constant fighting and training. They stay strong by always pushing themselves, but several other characters in Dragon Ball are naturally gifted enough that they don’t even need to train to match Goku and Vegeta’s abilities.

Even back in Dragon Ball Z, Gohan showed that natural talent can get you far in the Dragon Ball world, and that trend continues in Dragon Ball Super. Characters like Broly and Frieza are incredibly strong with very little training, making it difficult to see how Goku and Vegeta can compete without relying on their powerful transformations. It feels inevitable that the characters with the greatest potential in Dragon Ball Super will eventually become stronger than the series’ main heroes.

6. Caulifla Unlocked Super Saiyan Easier Than Any Other Character in the Series

Caulifla is Universe 6’s version of Goku, and she’s incredibly powerful – even more so than Kale, who is Universe 6’s Legendary Super Saiyan. While she wasn’t the first Super Saiyan in her universe, Caulifla achieved the transformation with surprising ease.

What’s more, Caulifla quickly achieves both Super Saiyan Grade 2 and Super Saiyan 2 simply by battling Goku during the Tournament of Power. With some further training, she could likely reach Super Saiyan 3 and might even be able to force her way into learning Super Saiyan God, similar to how Vegeta did between the movies Battle of Gods and Resurrection F.

5. Gohan Used to Be the Top Dog When it Came to Potential

For a long time after his introduction in Dragon Ball Z, Gohan was seen as a character with incredible, untapped potential. Even as a child, his bursts of anger made him exceptionally powerful, allowing him to achieve things that even more experienced fighters couldn’t. He was the first to reach Super Saiyan 2 during the Cell Saga, and with his Ultimate form, he became the strongest character in Dragon Ball Z without needing to fuse with anyone.

Gohan’s main weakness is his lack of consistent training. At the beginning of Dragon Ball Super, he’d gotten so out of practice that he even had trouble becoming a Super Saiyan during the Resurrection ‘F’ saga. Despite this, Gohan is naturally very powerful and quickly regains his strength when he does train. In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, he reveals he’s been secretly training, and unlocks a powerful new form called Beast, making him currently the strongest fighter among the Z-Fighters.

4. Pan Can Become Even Stronger Than Goku & Gohan if She Keeps Training

Pan has inherited and even surpassed Gohan’s incredible potential. Remarkably, at just three years old, she’s already stronger than Gohan was at four during the Saiyan Saga. While the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero later changes this, the Dragon Ball Super anime shows her flying as a baby. Even with that change, Pan is still exceptionally powerful and is currently being trained by Piccolo, following in her father’s footsteps.

I remember watching Dragon Ball GT and feeling like Pan’s potential wasn’t really explored, but it looks like Dragon Ball Super is trying to change that. Back in Dragon Ball Z, during the Peaceful World Saga, she was surprisingly powerful – she even beat Goten in the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament, at least in the anime version. It’s neat to see how each new generation of Saiyan hybrids gets stronger, so if Pan continues to train, she could easily surpass her father, uncle, and even her grandfather!

3. Uub Has So Much Potential, Goku Abandoned His Family to Train Him

Uub first appeared at the end of Dragon Ball Z as someone with incredible, unrealized power. Goku believed Uub was so strong that he considered leaving his family to train him – though some sources, like Neko Majin Z, show they actually spent time with Goku’s family during training, which differs from the portrayal in Dragon Ball GT. When Dragon Ball Super introduced God Ki, some fans wondered if Uub’s immense potential still fit into the story, but the author, Toyotarou, later explained Uub’s power level during the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, making it consistent with the new power system.

The Moro arc confirmed that Uub isn’t just the reincarnation of Kid Buu, but that Majin Buu actually possessed divine energy, known as God Ki. When Buu was reborn as Uub, Uub inherited this hidden God Ki. This explains why Uub is so powerful in the current Dragon Ball timeline – he’s a child with immense potential and access to God Ki, making him a valuable training partner for Goku. With some guidance, Uub could become far stronger than he ever was in Dragon Ball GT.

2. With No Training, Broly Was Strong Enough to Overpower Super Saiyan Blue Goku & Vegeta

Broly’s natural power far surpasses Gohan’s, dwarfing even Yamcha’s abilities. He was born with a Power Level of 10,000 – already stronger than many elite Saiyans – and spent his life surviving on the harsh planet Vampa. This made him incredibly tough, but he didn’t receive any real fighting training until Goku brought him to Beerus’ planet in the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Even without formal training, Broly was strong enough to battle and even injure opponents who had achieved God-like power.

Broly’s Super Saiyan transformations dramatically increased his power, quickly surpassing even Goku and Vegeta in their Super Saiyan Blue forms, and even Golden Frieza. He was so strong that only the combined power of Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta could defeat him. Currently, in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Broly is learning to master his Full Power Super Saiyan state. Even without that full control, he’s powerful enough to battle Gohan Beast in his standard Super Saiyan form. With further training, Broly is poised to become an overwhelmingly powerful force.

1. Frieza Went From Weaker Than Super Saiyan Goku to Stronger Than a Super Saiyan God By Training for Four Months

For years in Dragon Ball Z, Frieza was considered the strongest being in the universe, despite never having any formal training. He remained more powerful than almost everyone until Goku’s transformation into a Super Saiyan on Namek. Even after being brought back to life in Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F, Frieza’s strength was considerable. However, after just four months of training, he dramatically increased his power, going from weaker than a standard Super Saiyan to being able to battle Super Saiyan Blue Goku as an equal.

It’s truly remarkable how quickly Frieza achieved God-like power with just a few months of training. He’s continued to grow even stronger, significantly increasing his power through training in Hell and ultimately becoming the strongest non-divine being in the multiverse after a decade of training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber during the Granolah Saga. Currently, Black Frieza is the most powerful villain in Dragon Ball Super, and this is all due to his naturally immense potential.
