VR games haven’t become super popular because they don’t appeal to everyone. Some people get motion sickness, and the equipment needed to play can be expensive, limiting who can enjoy them.
Sadly, this means a lot of gamers aren’t experiencing some fantastic games like Half-Life: Alyx, Beat Saber, and The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners.
So, a lot of VR games started making regular versions for standard screens – basically, so more people could play. But honestly, as someone who’s really into VR, it just doesn’t feel the same when you lose that full 360-degree feeling of being there. It’s a totally different experience.
It looked like history was repeating itself with the recent launch of Aces of Thunder, a realistic flight simulator for PS VR2, SteamVR, PlayStation 5, and PC. However, things seem to be different this time around.
Smooth Flight Even Without the Headset
After Aces of Thunder was released on February 3rd, players started sharing their experiences online, and one post really stood out.
An environmental artist shared on X (formerly Twitter) that they tried the game on both VR and regular screens. They were impressed with how well it played on the PlayStation 5, especially using the DualSense controller to look around.
The game’s technical performance was particularly impressive. Players have reported it runs in true 4K resolution at a remarkably smooth 90 frames per second on the PlayStation 5 – a feat that’s sure to excite anyone interested in gaming technology.
A new flight simulator game called Aces of Thunder is now available on PlayStation 5! While designed for PSVR2, it can also be played on a regular TV using the DualSense controller. The game runs incredibly smoothly, displaying graphics in native 4K resolution at a fast 90 frames per second, and the creator clearly couldn’t contain their enthusiasm when announcing its release.
Playing on the PlayStation 5 with the DualSense controller felt really good, especially when using it to move the camera around.
Just to reiterate, players have pointed out that even though the VR version is more immersive, the standard, flat-screen version is still a great experience for those who don’t have a VR headset.
