Okay, so things are getting really interesting in Overwatch! It looks like Talon’s had a major overhaul. Reaper, Sombra, and Widowmaker are all leaving the group, and we’ve got some new faces joining – Emre, Freja, and Ashe for sure, and it sounds like Junker Queen might be in the mix too. This is all happening right as Overwatch is relaunching with the first season of Reign of Talon, called Conquest. It feels like a big setup for what’s coming!
Blizzard is making big changes to Overwatch in 2026. They’re simplifying the name – dropping the ‘2’ from Overwatch 2 – and launching five new playable characters all at once. The game will also shift to a yearly story format, with each year focusing on a new storyline. The first story arc, called Reign of Talon, began with the character Vendetta defeating Doomfist and becoming the new leader of his villainous group.
Talon’s Massive Roster Change in Overwatch Season 1: Conquest
A new comic from the “Story Time” series shows what happened after Vendetta rose to power. Narrated by the voice actress for Vendetta, Chiara Preziosi, the comic depicts Vendetta meeting with key members of Talon to plan an attack on Watchpoint: Grand Mesa, an old Overwatch base now run by Helix. But during the meeting, Moira reveals a surprising development: Reaper, Sombra, and Widowmaker have broken away from Talon because they disagree with Vendetta’s aggressive approach to Overwatch.

Emre and Freja, both experienced in search-and-rescue from their time with Overwatch, are now working for Talon and will lead the upcoming mission at Grand Mesa. While their commitment to Vendetta isn’t fully secure, as long as Maximilien keeps paying them, Talon has gained two very skilled and dangerous operatives.

All Heroes Joining or Leaving Talon in Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 1: Conquest
- Leaving Talon
- Doomfist (Defeated by Vendetta)
- Reaper (Opposes Vendetta, also killed her father)
- Sombra (Opposes Vendetta)
- Widowmaker (Opposes Vendetta)
- Joining/Working with Talon
- Domina (Vishkar vice president, new Season 1 hero)
- Emre (Via Maximilien, new Season 1 hero)
- Freja (Via Maximilien)
- Ashe (Deadlock leader)
- Mizuki (Hashimoto agent, new Season 1 hero, sympathetic to Overwatch/Yokai)
- Junker Queen (Potential alliance with Junkertown via Mauga)
- Wrecking Ball (Likely if Junker Queen joins)
- Roadhog (Possibly if Junker Queen joins)
- Junkrat (Possibly if Junker Queen joins)
Vendetta hasn’t just formed one partnership. Vishkar has been secretly supporting Talon for a while, and under the leadership of Vaira Singhania, who joined Overwatch as Domina in Season 1: Conquest, their support has become much more open. With Vishkar’s advanced hard-light shielding, Vendetta’s fighters will be incredibly powerful.
Vendetta has formed a stronger alliance with the Hashimoto, a powerful crime syndicate in Japan. They rose to prominence after the Shimada clan fell and are currently Kiriko’s Yokai gang’s main rivals in the world of Overwatch. To get help protecting Tokyo, the Hashimoto are forcing Kiriko’s father, Toshiro Yamagami, to build a new weapon similar to those used by Genji and Hanzo. Many believe the hero coming in Season 3—whose outline suggests they wear the iconic oni masks of the Hashimoto clan—will wield this weapon.

Though he’s not known for diplomacy, Junker Queen will likely appreciate Mauga’s cleverness and aggressive style. If he succeeds in getting her support, the entire Junkertown community could begin working with Talon, potentially leading to more direct conflict between Wrecking Ball, Roadhog, Junkrat, and Overwatch in the future.

Players will see these changes reflected in the game’s map when the first season of Overwatch’s new content, Reign of Talon: Conquest, launches on February 10th. With so much story development happening beforehand, it looks like Overwatch is going all-out this year.
