How to Unlock Chests in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined

In Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, you’ll find that not every locked chest opens the same way. Some need specific keys you find during quests, while others are hidden behind locked doors in castles and towns.

Most of the locked chests you’ll find during your journey need specific tools to open. These are the Thief’s Key, the Magic Key, and the Ultimate Key. Getting all three of these keys will let you open almost all of the locked chests, so let’s find out where to get them!

You can find the Thief’s Key in the past version of Pilgrim’s Perdition, inside the local Inn. It’s located right next to a Grey Tablet Fragment, but you’ll need to rescue High Priestess Jacqueline from the Pit of Silence first.

Once the Alltrades Abbey liberation quest is finished, players can return to Pilgrim’s Perdition and collect a key from the old Inn. Just outside and slightly north of the Inn, they’ll find their first locked chest, which holds a Mini-Medal.

Most of the locked chests will now be accessible, though not every single one. To get the next key, players need to continue the main story. This happens after visiting the Hardlypool area and freeing Wetlock and the surrounding towns from the flooding caused by Gracos.

Once completed, players can journey to La Bravoure to deliver the Mermaid’s Tear and obtain the Flying Carpet. This allows them to continue their search for the Sizzling Stone and discover that Bulgio, who currently possesses it, resides at Bulgio’s Palace in the L’Arca Region of the Present.

Head to L’Arca and use the Flying Carpet to reach Bulgio’s Palace. Once inside, go all the way to the top floor – but don’t speak to Bulgio just yet. Find the chest in the attic and take the Magic Key inside. With the key, you’ll now be able to open the intermediate-level locked chests.

The final key is located in the Cathedral of Light, but you won’t find it until you’re deep inside. Once you reach the 1st Level of the Basement, look for stairs on the northern side. These will lead you to a room with three chests – one of them contains the Ultimate Key, which unlocks all the locked chests in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.
