How Naruto Uzumaki Mastered All Five Natures, Explained

This post contains spoilers for Naruto.

Naruto Uzumaki becomes one of the most powerful characters in the series, but he didn’t start that way. When he was younger, people often saw him as a failure. He struggled with even basic ninja skills, and his classmates and teachers frequently made fun of him while he was at the Academy.

He quickly proved them wrong. Naruto didn’t let their teasing bother him; instead, he focused on improving his skills through dedicated training. Over the course of the series, he learned from various teachers who helped him become more powerful.

Naruto Mastering The Sage Mode Was The First Step

  • Naruto managed to add Wind Release to the Rasengan
  • He also created the Rasenshuriken

Naruto always showed a natural talent for Wind Release techniques, but he didn’t master incorporating wind into his attacks until after a significant time jump in his training. Kakashi and Yamato worked with him consistently, eventually helping him combine Wind Release with the Rasengan. This breakthrough allowed Naruto to create the powerful Wind Release Rasenshuriken, an S-rank jutsu capable of causing serious internal damage. However, Tsunade, aware of the technique’s dangerous side effects, strictly prohibited him from using it. Naruto’s mastery of Sage Mode later allowed him to use the Rasenshuriken more safely and effectively, launching it as a long-range attack.

Naruto’s most important teacher was Jiraiya, one of the Legendary Sannin. They spent a lot of time training together and even journeyed across the land. Jiraiya taught Naruto powerful techniques like the Summoning Technique and the Rasengan, which became one of Naruto’s most recognizable moves throughout the series. Despite teaching him these skills, Jiraiya never showed Naruto how to use the Toad Sage Mode.

Following Jiraiya’s death, Naruto trained with Fukasaku on Mount Myoboku to learn Sage Mode. It was a difficult process, but he eventually mastered it. Sage Mode does more than just make attacks stronger; it also sharpens the user’s senses. Because Naruto always struggled with chakra control, his training with the toads on Mount Myoboku significantly improved his abilities, allowing him to more easily use different elemental techniques.

Naruto Mastered The Five Natures During The Fourth Great Ninja War

Naruto began to understand how to combine his chakra with different elements after creating the Wind Release Rasenshuriken. However, he didn’t master all four elemental transformations until Hagoromo granted him the power of the Six Paths. This new power allowed him to use any elemental transformation effortlessly. He further improved his ability to combine chakra and elements when he gained control of all nine tailed beasts’ chakra. This allowed him to create powerful attacks like the Lava Release Rasenshuriken and Magnet Release Rasenshuriken, and he could even add elemental transformations to attacks beyond just the Rasenshuriken.

After learning to control all five basic chakra natures, Naruto became a far more dangerous opponent. He wasn’t limited to a single type of attack and could adapt his fighting style based on each enemy he faced. He skillfully used different chakra natures throughout the war, eliminating any advantage his opponents might have gained from specializing in one. He continued to change his tactics, successfully defeating every enemy he encountered.

Naruto Became The Strongest Ninja In The World

Naruto’s Hard Work Ultimately Paid Off

By the time the Fourth Great Ninja War concluded, Naruto had become stronger than any ninja who had ever lived, including legendary figures like Hashirama, Madara, and Hiruzen. While his many different attacks were important, several factors contributed to his incredible power. Primarily, Naruto had an enormous amount of chakra, letting him fight tirelessly without needing rest. This was due to being the host of the Nine-Tails, and later receiving the Six Paths Chakra from Hagoromo Otsutsuki. On top of that, receiving chakra from the other tailed beasts significantly increased his already vast reserves.

Naruto had access to two different Sage Modes. He first learned Toad Sage Mode, which taught him how to draw power from nature. Later, during the Fourth Great Ninja War, he unlocked Six Paths Sage Mode – a significant improvement over the first. This upgrade drastically boosted his strength, senses, and chakra control, making him far more efficient in battle.

Beyond his natural talent, Naruto’s incredible determination and willpower were key to becoming a successful ninja. He consistently refused to give up, even when facing impossible situations, and always found a way to overcome obstacles – a trait shown repeatedly throughout the series. He never hesitated to keep striving, even when others doubted him, like when he relentlessly pursued Sasuke despite being called foolish. This only made his commitment to his friend even stronger.

What really sets Naruto apart is his unique approach to being a ninja. People often called him a philosopher as a child, but he didn’t fully grasp what that meant until he journeyed with Jiraiya.

I Will Shoulder Your Hatred And Die With You! Because I’m Your Friend!

Naruto wasn’t like typical ninjas who relied solely on physical power. He often chose to reason with his opponents instead of fighting, and this proved crucial in moments like the Fourth Great Ninja War. When Obito became incredibly powerful after absorbing the Ten-Tails, he threatened to wipe out the entire Shinobi Alliance. However, Naruto stepped in and, instead of battling him, talked to Obito, reminding him of his former dreams and motivations. Though hesitant at first, Obito eventually listened, and it’s likely the alliance would have fallen without Naruto’s intervention. Given his incredible achievements, it’s no wonder Naruto is considered one of the greatest anime heroes ever. When the original series concluded, fans were heartbroken, but their disappointment was eased by the announcement of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

Naruto Uzumaki’s Downfall In Boruto

Before Boruto even started, many fans were worried it wouldn’t live up to the original Naruto. They hoped the story would stay focused on Naruto himself, but they were willing to see what happened. While they initially had faith in the creator’s vision, it ultimately proved to be a disappointment. Instead of building on Naruto’s story, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations damaged his legacy. Naruto was diminished, losing both his importance and his power, and many fans felt he was made to look foolish. Unsurprisingly, viewers were upset with how Naruto was portrayed, and a large number of them stopped following the series.
