The ambitious mod project, Skyblivion, is nearing completion. The team recently showcased Wendelbek, a large ruin from Oblivion located in eastern Cyrodiil. Even though Bethesda is still working on The Elder Scrolls 6, 2025 was a significant year for the franchise. The release of Oblivion Remastered in April provided valuable feedback for Bethesda’s next game, and allowed fans to experience Cyrodiil with updated graphics, though many players have since returned to Skyrim.
While Oblivion Remastered aimed to stay faithful to the original game’s world, Skyblivion is a complete rebuild of Cyrodiil. It will feature larger cities, redesigned landscapes, better dungeons, and new side quests with original voice acting. The creators hope to release this enhanced Oblivion experience within Skyrim in 2026.
The Skyblivion modding team recently shared new screenshots of the Ayleid ruin of Wendelbek on Bluesky. Wendelbek stands out from other ruins in Oblivion because it contains more Welkynd Stones than any other location, making it particularly useful for players with the Atronach birthsign. It’s connected to Umbacano’s quest and also includes an altar for crafting Black Soul gems. According to the team, the new version of Wendelbek looks very different from the original in Oblivion, and that was intentional.
Skyblivion Team Shares Latest Project Update With Wendelbek
Don’t mind the mess! 👷 We’ve been a bit quiet since our last update, but that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped our work. More and more of the project is entering its final state, including Wendelbek, a massive Ayleid ruin to explore. Skyblivion started as an attempt to simply bring Oblivion into Skyrim‘s engine, but it has since evolved into a full remake. Though it functions as a Skyrim mod, it will bring back many of the original Oblivion‘s features, like its character classes, skills, and how lockpicking works. Players can expect 223 quests within the game world of Cyrodiil, and dungeons will be more varied – including icy caves near the Skyrim border and rocky areas along the Gold Coast.
In December 2025, the leader of the Skyblivion project, Rebelzize, announced the mod would be delayed until 2026. Although fans generally understood the delay, many were eager for updates on the project’s progress. This February’s update is positive because the development team specifically stated that more and more of the mod is nearing completion. While they haven’t announced a specific release date yet, the developers have reassured fans that most of their work in 2026 will focus on refining and polishing the final product.
When Skyblivion first releases, it won’t include the ‘Shivering Isles’ or ‘Knights of the Nine’ expansions from Oblivion, but the team plans to add them later. Another feature missing will be the spellmaking system; unfortunately, the necessary code was lost during the project’s move to the Skyrim: Special Edition platform. Skyblivion will fully support mods, though not all Skyrim mods will necessarily work with it.
If you want to learn more about Skyblivion, you can visit the official website. It includes an interactive map of the game world, Cyrodiil, and a gallery of screenshots and concept art. While the game isn’t out yet, many fans of Oblivion are impressed by the dedication and quality of work the team has shown.
