In Nioh 3, Spirit Veins are unique locations that unlock after you fulfill specific requirements. If you’ve discovered a Spirit Vein while exploring the game world, you might be wondering what it does and how to use it.
This guide explains Spirit Veins in Nioh 3, covering how to find them and put them to use. Read on for more information.
What are Spirit Veins in Nioh 3?
How Do Spirit Veins Work in Nioh 3?
In Nioh 3, Spirit Veins are hidden pathways that let you reach areas you normally couldn’t. You need to use a specific Guardian Spirit to activate each one. There are six different types of Spirit Veins, and each requires a different Guardian Spirit to open.
Spirit Veins are easy to find in the overworld because they glow yellow. The map shows them as hexagonal icons that match the appearance of the Guardian Spirit needed to activate them.
Okay, so when I’m checking the map, if I see a little locked icon next to a Spirit Vein, that means I haven’t befriended the Guardian Spirit for that one yet. But if it’s a tick icon instead, awesome! That means I’ve already completed it and got the Spirit on my side.

How to Get Past a Spirit Vein in Nioh 3
To challenge a Spirit Vein in Nioh 3, find it on the map and walk into the yellow circle. If you have the right Guardian Spirit, you’ll be able to interact with it and a “Traverse” button will appear.
To access a secret area, hold down the E key on your keyboard/mouse, the R1 button on a PlayStation 5 controller, or the RB button on an Xbox controller. This hidden area might contain interesting discoveries, tough enemies, and valuable items like Samurai or Ninja Locks. When you’re ready to leave, look for the yellow light circle to return to the main area.
You don’t have to select or use a Guardian Spirit to explore a Spirit Vein—just carrying one with you is sufficient.
