Hytale Modders Have Already Added an ‘MMO-Style Dungeon’

Even though Hytale has only been available for under a month, players are already creating large, multiplayer-style dungeons and boss battles. The game had a difficult development process, so it was unclear how fans would react to its early access release. Now that Hytale is finally here, players have quickly started adding their own content and expanding the game.

Hypixel Studios initially revealed Hytale in 2018, but its development faced many unexpected challenges. The game’s engine needed a complete overhaul, and after being acquired by and then sold back from Riot Games in 2020, its release seemed uncertain. Despite these difficulties, Hypixel founder Simon Collins-Laflamme called the recent early access launch a remarkable achievement, and positive initial player response suggests the game still has a bright future.

Hytale Modders Add “MMO-Style” Dungeon, Complete with Boss Fights

Okay, so I’ve been following the Hytale community, and these guys from Runeteria just dropped something incredible. They built a whole mini-MMORPG inside the game! It’s called The Hollow Crypt, and it’s seriously impressive. The craziest part? They did it in just three weeks, completely on their own – no help from the Hypixel team! It really shows how easy Hytale is to mod and how dedicated this Runeteria crew is. The Crypt has a huge dungeon, you can craft custom weapons, and the boss fights actually have different levels – it honestly feels like playing a smaller version of WoW or another big MMO. And they’re not stopping there! They’re working on a tool that’ll let players create even more custom stuff, making the whole experience even deeper and more MMO-like. It’s a really cool project, and I’m excited to see where they take it.

Collins-Laflamme even reached out to the official Runeterra team on Twitter, requesting insight into their development process to help improve how modders create projects for Hypixel. This kind of community support has quickly made the game a popular platform for mods, similar to how Minecraft became. The Hollow Crypt is just one example of the many ambitious mods already available or in development. Well-known Minecraft modders, PokeFind, are currently working on a Pokemonthemed mod for Hytale*, and other creators have added full-fledged RPG systems with adjustable difficulty and skill trees to the game.

It’s striking how quickly new modifications (mods) are being released for the game, especially considering it took eight years for the original game to reach early access. This rapid expansion is encouraging for fans of Hytale. Although the game took a long time to launch, it’s now growing quickly thanks to both official updates and the creativity of the modding community. Hypixel has also announced it’s accelerating its development plans for Hytale by releasing updates early, even before they’re fully refined, allowing players to experience new content sooner. This might mean encountering some bugs, but players in early access likely anticipate that.

While still early in development, Hytale is showing a lot of promise. Even with some challenges during its creation, the game is already popular with players, and its powerful modding tools suggest a huge amount of player-created content – far beyond what Hypixel could offer on its own. It’s hard to say exactly what the future holds, but Hytale is financially secure with funding guaranteed for at least two more years, meaning fans can expect continued updates and improvements.
