Boruto: Why Kurama’s Rebirth in Himawari Makes No Sense

Boruto follows the adventures of a new generation of ninja, including Naruto’s son, Boruto. While Naruto’s younger daughter, Himawari, isn’t initially interested in becoming a ninja, she unexpectedly possesses some natural abilities. Though her part in the story starts small, things take a turn when it appears the spirit of Kurama has been reborn inside her.

Kurama told Naruto he was going to die, leading most fans to assume he was gone for good in the Boruto series. While it was later revealed that Kurama wasn’t truly gone—his chakra was transferred into Naruto’s daughter, Himawari—many viewers feel this explanation creates inconsistencies in the story.

How Kurama’s Rebirth in Himawari Makes No Sense

Many Plot Holes Seem to Be Present

It’s exciting to see Himawari using such strong powers in her new role, but the details of how Kurama was reborn are a bit confusing.

Before using Baryon Mode, Naruto was told by Kurama that it was a one-time ability and Kurama wouldn’t survive. It’s portrayed as a sacrifice, as Kurama essentially burns his own life force, along with Naruto’s, to power it.

The established rules for jinchuriki don’t quite fit with how Kurama reincarnated into Himawari. It’s unusual for a powerful Nine-Tailed beast to suddenly appear in a random person without a proper sealing process. The story doesn’t offer any explanation for this sudden connection, simply stating that Himawari is unique. We’ve seen before that even smaller chakra transfers, like the one to Naruto, required specific rituals beforehand.

It’s possible Himawari has a connection to the Nine-Tailed Beasts through her chakra, but that doesn’t explain why other members of the Uzumaki clan are less likely to be chosen as Kurama’s host. The series Boruto doesn’t clearly explain why Himawari was specifically selected over other characters.

How Can Kurama’s Rebirth in Himawari Be Explained?

Is There a Way to Explain This Reincarnation?

The character Kurama is inspired by the Kitsune, a creature from Japanese folklore often depicted as a powerful, nine-tailed fox. In these stories, a Kitsune’s power grows with each tail, and the strongest ones have nine. It takes a Kitsune 1,000 years to grow all nine tails, gaining a new one every century. These nine-tailed foxes are known for their wisdom and ability to bring good fortune. However, they aren’t always benevolent; Kitsune can also be mischievous tricksters, and their powers vary depending on how many tails they have – some can heal, control the wind, and possess other unique abilities.

I’ve noticed a clear connection between Naruto and Kurama – they both embody aspects of the Kitsune spirit, which shows up in their powers. It’s well known that Kitsune can be tricksters, and it seems Kurama played that role with Naruto. He told Naruto that using Baryon Mode would mean certain death for both of them. However, it wasn’t a complete lie, more of a clever trick. Naruto believed they’d both die, but only Kurama actually did. Interestingly, while explaining this, Kurama conveniently left out the fact that being ‘dead’ doesn’t automatically mean he’s gone for good.

The timeframe for Kurama’s rebirth isn’t clear, only that it takes a minimum of three years. This leaves open the possibility that he was reborn within Naruto’s daughter, Himawari. While each tailed beast might have different requirements for rebirth, it’s still puzzling how Himawari possessed this chakra for over three years before Kurama revealed his reincarnation through her.

How Will This Affect Himawari’s Future?

I’ve been thinking about the Uzumaki family’s power, and it’s interesting to consider Himawari. While Naruto was an incredibly strong jinchuriki, I wouldn’t be surprised if Himawari ends up even more powerful. It seems she has a natural connection to the Nine-Tails’ chakra that’s stronger than her father’s, maybe because both her parents experienced having Kurama’s power within them.

Because Himawari is an ideal host for Kurama’s spirit, she’s expected to be able to use his powers fully, without limitations. This could even mean she’ll be able to use powerful techniques like Naruto’s Baryon Mode without the usual energy drain, and become stronger and more precise than he was. She’s already demonstrated impressive skill, like using Tailed Beast Balls against Jura, which are powerful enough to defeat almost any enemy.

While it’s still unclear exactly how Himawari’s abilities from Kurama will work, it’s becoming obvious she’s destined to be an incredibly powerful ninja. Fans of Boruto will likely need to piece things together themselves to understand how Kurama has been reborn inside her.
