The Jujutsu Kaisen manga concluded in 2024 with the Shinjuku Showdown, which saw the defeat of Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses. This final arc sparked a lot of debate among fans, and that’s why the announcement of a sequel series, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, was so highly anticipated. Taking place 68 years after the original story ends, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo introduces a new alien race called the Simurians. With 21 chapters released, the sequel has been a huge success with readers, and many believe it’s even better written than the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga.
As Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo nears its conclusion, it’s addressing a major unresolved question from the original series: the complete removal of cursed spirits. After a two-year wait, creator Gege Akutami is finally providing an answer. With the assistance of Yuji Itadori and Maru, a member of the Simurians, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is effectively resolving a significant flaw in the original story in a satisfying way.
How Jujutsu Kaisen’s Original Ending Was Messed Up By Gege Akutami
No Conclusion On The Cursed Spirits Plotline
The ending of Jujutsu Kaisen felt very hurried, which is understandable given the author’s health struggles. Several important plot threads were either ignored or wrapped up too quickly. One of the biggest missed opportunities was exploring the idea of completely removing cursed spirits from the world – something the author introduced early in the series.
In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, Cursed Spirits are born from the negative emotions of people who can’t manage their own cursed energy. These spirits cause widespread chaos and tragedy, including many deaths. Some sorcerers dreamed of completely eliminating them to prevent further suffering. Yuki Tsukumo was one of these sorcerers, hoping to create a world free from spirit-related accidents. Later, Geto Suguru emerged with a similar goal, but his solution was extreme: he believed that killing all non-sorcerers would leave only those strong enough to control cursed energy, effectively ending the problem.
If every single human became a Jujutsu sorcerer, curses would no longer be born. — Yuki Tsukumo
Geto’s death during his fight with Gojo led to an even greater threat: Kenjaku possessing his body. Kenjaku aimed to combine the cursed energy of many sorcerers, hoping to create a chaotic and unpredictable event. He was ultimately defeated by Yuta Okkotsu during the Shinjuku Showdown, where the King of Curses also fell. By this time, Yuki Tsukumo had already died. However, the original story never resolved the idea of completely eliminating cursed spirits from Japan, leaving that plotline unfinished. Now, in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, this previously neglected storyline is finally being explored.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Is Fixing The Ending Of The Original Series
Gege Akutami’s Short Manga To Deliver A Fitting Conclusion
In Chapter 21 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, Maru used his cursed technique and explained his true intentions. He noticed humans have a hard time dealing with Cursed Spirits, so he announced his plan to completely wipe them out.
I want to eliminate Cursed Spirits from the world forever. — Maru, JJK Modulo
Yuji Itadori shared that others in the past had tried to achieve the same ambitious goal. Now, with Maru’s unique ability to balance chaos and harmony, it might finally be possible. Maru plans to combine cursed energy from Yuta’s ring, his own powers, and Mahito’s strength to completely eradicate cursed spirits in Japan. Yuji Itadori will witness this monumental event, which Maru believes will allow both humans and Simurians to coexist peacefully from then on.
Cursed Spirits Will Forever Cease To Exist In JJK Modulo
Maru and Yuji Will End Cursed Spirits Forever
There are two ways in which Maru can go about eliminating Cursed Spirits from Japan entirely:
- The first way is to create an ideal scenario where everyone with cursed energy is given the power to manipulate it properly. As things stand, not everyone knows how to optimize cursed energy, which is why it leaks and leads to the creation of Cursed Spirits.
- The other way Maru can go about it is by removing cursed energy from everyone altogether, which would naturally lead to the demise of all cursed spirits. This is unlikely to be the case because it would create an imbalance between the Simurians and the humans, as one force would no longer hold on to cursed energy.
It’s most likely people will learn to control and refine cursed energy using a technique similar to Idle Transfiguration, just like what happened during the Culling Game. This could finally solve the long-standing problem of cursed spirits and unlock a future filled with powerful new abilities, potentially even eliminating these dangerous entities for good. Another possibility is that all cursed spirits could be completely transformed into Kalyans.
Yuki And Geto’s Dream Has Finally Been Realized
Gege Akutami Added Meaning To Yuki And Geto
The ‘Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo’ storyline is a significant improvement for the franchise because it resolves a major issue with the original series’ ending. The original story left the fate of Cursed Spirits unresolved, but this new development completely removes them, giving purpose to the arcs of both Yuki and Geto. Maru will ultimately achieve Yuki’s long-held dream, and Geto’s similar, though unconventional, ambitions will also be fulfilled.
I’m so excited about how everything’s coming together! It looks like Maru of the Simurians is finally finishing what Yuki Tsukumo started – a mission so many others have worked towards. It’s amazing because this will actually help Gojo Satoru’s dream come true – a world free of corruption in the Jujutsu world! And it’s all going to unfold with Yuji Itadori leading the way. The best part? By doing all of this, Maru will officially bring his people and humans together as friends, finally giving the Simurians a real home and a lasting peace. It’s a truly fantastic development!
However you view it, the ending is truly stunning and resolves the main problems fans had with the original Jujutsu Kaisen story. Gege Akutami has clearly grown as a writer, and future works will likely be even more refined and well-crafted.
