Rumor: ARC Raiders Publisher Could Be Working on New StarCraft Game

A recent rumor suggests that Blizzard might bring back the StarCraft series with assistance from Nexon, the Korean publisher known for ARC Raiders. However, Blizzard hasn’t officially confirmed any plans for a new StarCraft game, so fans shouldn’t get their hopes up too much just yet.

First launched in March 1998, StarCraft is a science fiction, real-time strategy game series. It takes place in the Koprulu Sector, where three species – the Terran, Zerg, and Protoss – battle for control of the galaxy. The original StarCraft game and its expansion, Brood War, were highly influential in the development of competitive eSports within the strategy game genre. A sequel, StarCraft 2, was released in 2010. While both StarCraft games were successful, the series’ popularity has gradually decreased over time. The most recent StarCraftrelated content appeared in 2025 as a crossover with Diablo 4, which included cosmetic items inspired by StarCraft*’s characters.

Another StarCraft Project Could Be in the Works

Despite being unconfirmed, there’s talk that StarCraft might make a comeback, potentially with help from Nexon. A report from Korean media, translated by GamesRadar, suggests Nexon is collaborating with Blizzard on a new StarCraft game. Details about the game’s type are currently unknown. According to the report, Nexon—the publisher of ARC Raiders—hired well-known StarCraft map creator Choi Jun-ho, known for his popular Shinpu map, to lead the development. Some developers from Nexon’s free-to-play game Sudden Attack are also reportedly involved in the project.

Despite recent rumors, a new project potentially being worked on by Nexon isn’t connected to the previously reported StarCraft shooter that Blizzard is developing. According to Jason Schreier, Blizzard is building this StarCraft shooter internally, and it’s unlikely to involve Nexon. Schreier also stated he doesn’t know if a collaboration between the two companies is actually happening. This isn’t Blizzard’s first time trying to expand the StarCraft universe beyond its traditional real-time strategy format.

Blizzard once developed a stealth-action game called StarCraft: Ghost, starring the Terran agent Nova. But after the Xbox 360 launched and World of Warcraft became hugely popular, Blizzard put the game on hold in 2006. In 2014, then-president Mike Morhaime confirmed that StarCraft: Ghost was officially canceled. Now, rumors of a new StarCraft shooter have surfaced, and it’s unclear whether this is a revived version of StarCraft: Ghost or a completely new game.

StarCraft’s Future Could Be Revealed at BlizzCon

As a huge Blizzard fan, I’m so excited that BlizzCon is coming back to Anaheim on September 12th and 13th, 2026! We haven’t really heard much about what Blizzard’s been working on lately, but this is where we’ll finally get a good look at everything. I’m especially hoping to see a lot about World of Warcraft: The Last Titan, but I’m expecting news about Overwatch, Hearthstone, and Diablo 4 too. Blizzard will probably share more details about what to expect in the coming months, and I’ll be counting down the days!

Even though Blizzard hasn’t released a new StarCraft game in over ten years, it’s still one of the most beloved strategy game series ever made. It’s unclear what Blizzard’s future plans are for the sci-fi series, or if other companies like Nexon will be involved.
