Okay, so Nioh 3 has a ton of side quests, and honestly, you really shouldn’t skip them. They flesh out the stories of some of the characters you meet, giving you a deeper understanding of who they are. Plus, you can snag some seriously rare loot from them that’ll come in handy later. Once you get to the Heian period, you’ll need to head south and check out all the different areas it has to offer – there’s a lot to explore!

In the Funaokayama region, players can find several Myths to complete, including the quest called “Follow the Soldier’s Shadow.” This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough for completing this quest in Nioh 3.

Okay, so I was exploring Funaokayama and headed west, and that’s when I ran into Minamoto no Yoshitsune! He told me about this really powerful, out-of-control aratama causing trouble, and he thinks he might know something about it. Luckily, he offered to help me take it down, which is awesome because I won’t have to bother asking another player to join me. That means I can save my Ochoko Cups for something else!

If you look at the map, you’ll see a path heading west towards the temple in the center of the area. However, don’t take that path! It leads through difficult terrain, enemies, and a locked door that you can’t open from that side. Instead, head back to the spot where Yoshitsune originally gave you the quest.

As you go down, watch out for some enemies, including a one-eyed monster called a cyclops Yokai who throws large snowballs. Avoid getting hit! If you head west, you’ll see a locked gate on your left that you can open from here. Now, turn right and enter the temple ahead – it’s an enemy base. You’ll need to defeat 6 enemies inside to get the Grubby Iron Key.

Use the key to open the temple door. Inside, you’ll face Yasha, a boss accompanied by weaker Yokai enemies. Focus on defeating the Yokai first, while Yoshitsune distracts the boss. Once Yasha is defeated, speak with Tomoe Gozen to finish the quest and receive a Samurai Lock and the Smithing Text for the Great Hachiryo Armor (Samurai).

Within the enemy base, you’ll discover a Nurikabe Wall. Once you get past it, you’ll find a Hot Spring. You could have reached the Hot Spring another way – by taking the upper path where the Yokai throws snowballs.
