Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Almost Let Goku Go Even Further Beyond

As a lifelong Dragon Ball fan who grew up watching Goku evolve from a scrawny boy to the mightiest Saiyan in the universe, I must say that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has brought me both joy and frustration. On one hand, the game offers an impressive roster of characters, each with their unique animations and transformation sequences that pay homage to the beloved franchise. However, when it comes to Goku’s transformations, Sparking Zero seems to have missed a golden opportunity.

The eagerly awaited game titled “Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero” is now available for all Dragon Ball fans! They’re already immersed in exploring its contents. This game draws fighters from various chapters of the animated Dragon Ball series, including GT and movies, positioning itself as the most heartfelt tribute to the Dragon Ball franchise yet. With a plethora of activities to engage in within this star-studded collection, players are just starting to discover the rich layers of homage hidden within this game dedicated to Akira Toriyama’s timeless series.

Delving into the array of characters in Sparking Zero, and understanding their potential uses, will be central to our analysis. This could mean examining their competitive worth online or finding applications within the Custom Battle editor. With a total of 182 initial characters, this game offers something for various types of players. Beyond that, just watching their actions unfold, including intricate transformation sequences that honor one of Dragon Ball‘s signature aspects, brings enjoyment. As the main character, Son Goku is accustomed to transformations; however, those eager to see his latest selection of forms will have to anticipate a more polished version in the future.

Goku’s Transformations in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Have An Odd Restriction

In an unexpected twist, considering Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero encompasses nearly all characters’ transformation phases, barring exceptions like Garlic Jr. and Hirudegarn’s base forms, it’s worth noting that Goku still lacks a couple of his forms. Specifically, Teen Goku’s Great Ape and GT Goku’s Golden Great Ape are missing. However, there’s a caveat: Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero categorizes characters with multiple forms into distinct versions based on various time periods. Players can initiate fights from any form within these categories, but they can only transform into other forms that belong to their specific character version. Consequently, each Goku can only access transformations applicable to his particular timeline, which is reasonable under the circumstances.

Sparking Zero Fell Short Of Portraying The Strongest Goku

In the game “Sparking Zero,” all of Goku’s transformations from Dragon Ball Z and Super are featured, except for his advancements to Ultra Instinct -Sign- and Ultra Instinct. It’s a pity that these transformations weren’t combined into one character in the game, as it appears the developers intended to do so. Goku in Dragon Ball Super has access to his base form, Super Saiyan 1, Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan Blue God, and Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan forms, but he hasn’t yet progressed to Ultra Instinct -Sign- or Ultra Instinct.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Has Laid The Blueprint For Goku’s Path

One bonus fight from Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero features an innovative Custom Battle system, created by Spike Chunsoft and offering unique rewards and advancement. In this battle, Whis squares off against Goku in his Super Saiyan form. Initially, the fight follows a normal course, but this version of Goku is programmed to transition through his three other forms automatically, and then enter Kaioken. As the battle reaches its climax, there’s an unexpected twist as Goku transforms into a full-strength Ultra Instinct -Sign-, suggesting he has powered up even beyond what was shown in Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Essentially, Sparking Zero takes creative liberties to create a similar appeal of witnessing Saiyans gradually increasing their power levels.

DBS Goku’s Wildest Fight Yet Will Have To Wait

Regrettably, the launch of Sparking Zero doesn’t seem to include a playable version of Goku from Dragon Ball Super that can transform through all his forms in a single battle. Therefore, it’s up to the game coming after Sparking Zero to address this, ideally establishing clearer connections between Ultra Instinct and other aspects of Goku’s abilities by then. Although it might take some time, the concept presented in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero could become a thrilling reality someday.
