What to Do with Steel Trap in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

As a seasoned adventurer with countless hours spent exploring the enchanting realm of Hyrule, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when reminiscing about my time spent battling Automatons in Echoes of Wisdom. Dampe, that quirky gravekeeper, always had some fascinating side quests up his sleeve, and “Endless Stomach!” was no exception.

In the game “Echoes of Wisdom”, Zelda can call upon mechanical creatures called Automatons. Upon finishing the main quest titled “Still Missing”, you’ll encounter Dampe, initiating the Automaton side missions. If you desire an Automaton capable of quickly defeating many enemies in a single strike within Echoes of Wisdom, complete the mission known as “Endless Stomach!” to acquire the High-Teku Baba. To do this, present Dampe with both a Deku Baba Echo and the Steel Trap key item.

How to Complete

To find Dampe, travel northeast from Hyrule Ranch. After defeating the Crow and retrieving the Windup Key, you can visit Dampe’s Studio to work on Automaton side quests. Alternatively, you can head west from Jabu-Jabu’s Den, crossing over trees in Jabul Waters until you reach East Hyrule Field, where Dampe’s Studio is located north of the Eastern Temple.

As a gamer, I’ll first have to wrap up the “Automaton Engineer Dampe” mission and grab the Techtite Automaton. Only then can I move on to the exciting “Endless Stomach!” challenge. If I’ve already taken care of that, I should check out the journal next to Dampe to pick up the three side quests it offers.

  • Endless Stomach!
  • Chop ’em in Two!
  • Performance Artist!

To make Dampe appear in your game, you’ll need to present him either a Level 2 Deku Baba or a Bio Deku Baba. Additionally, you should have an item with strong clamping capabilities, which is referred to as the Steel Trap key item.

Bio Deku Baba & Deku Baba Lv. 2 Echo Location

You can find the Bio Deku Baba in caves where you can swim/dive or the dungeon in the Jabul Waters Rift on the first floor. If you’re looking for the Deku Baba Lv. 2, you’ll need to go to the Stilled Heart Lake in Faron Wetlands. There are giant Deku Babas in the tall grass. You can also find some in the Faron Wetlands’ rifts.

In the Faron Wetlands, you have two options for setting Deku Baba Lv. 2 and regular Deku Babas on fire: Ignizol or Fire Keese. For Bio Deku Babas, use Chompfin or other aquatic Echoes instead. Keep in mind that the frogs known as Drippitunes reside here, and they can summon rain with their singing. You’ll probably need to eliminate these creatures before you can effectively burn the Deku Babas using fire. The swiftest way to deal with both types of Deku Baba is by utilizing Tri’s Bind ability. Simply bind the Deku Baba, then guide Zelda in a direction opposite to it, causing its head to detach. Afterward, you can acquire its Echo if you haven’t done so already.

Instead of the standard Deku Baba Echo (with a yellow head), you should present either the Bio Deku Baba or the Deku Baba Level 2 Echo.

Steel Trap Location

The Steel Trap can be won in an Acorn Gathering minigame. Go to the western edge of Hyrule, in the Western Hyrule Field between Gerudo Desert and Eldin Volcano. There’s a Waypoint statue near an Acorn Gathering man. Speak to him, and complete the Acorn Gathering in under 40 seconds to get the Steel Trap.

To grab the acorn perched up on that rocky outcrop, you’ll find it more effective to employ the Platboom Echo. Using the Crawltula could do the trick, but it might take more time and there’s a chance you won’t meet the deadline.

To pass the Steel Trap to Dampe, interact with him, choose “I need a robot“, and then opt for “Eternal stomach!“. Since you can’t duplicate the Steel Trap, you’ll have to trade the original one to obtain the High-Teku Baba.

How Much to Repair High-Teku Baba

High-Teku Baba functions similarly to regular Deku Babas, but since it’s an Automaton, it requires winding before it can engage in combat. You can call upon an Automaton by pressing down on the left side of the d-pad. If you choose to use Automatons, it might be beneficial to concoct a smoothie with the Twisted Pumpkin ingredient. This drink provides a temporary boost that quickens the winding-up process.

As a gamer, if my trusty High-Teku Baba ever malfunctions, I’d have to trot back to Dampe’s Studio for some much-needed repairs. It’ll set me back 70 Rupees or 2 Monster Stones.
