In Nioh 3, Fire Shuriken is a Ninjutsu technique that allows Ninjas to throw a flaming projectile at enemies. It causes both physical and fire damage, and is a more powerful version of the standard Shuriken, a fundamental Ninjutsu skill.
You can get the Fire Shuriken skill in Nioh 3 relatively early in the game by finding the Ninjustu Handbook that unlocks it. However, this handbook is hidden and can be easy to overlook. This guide will show you exactly where to find the Fire Shuriken, how to use it, and what it does.

Fire Shuriken Ninjutsu Handbook Location in Nioh 3
Okay, so I was exploring around Hamamatsu Castle Town in Nioh 3, and I found Fire Shuriken hidden behind a bunch of boxes you can break. It’s after you finish the tutorial and get into the main game world, the Warring States Era, if you’re looking for it.
Follow the quest marker to find Tokugawa Ieyasu’s army camp. He and Ii Naotora need your help defeating the Yokai inside the Crucible, which is causing problems for the town. You’ll find the entrance to the Crucible, and a Shrine is located nearby.
- From the Hamamatsu Castle Town (East) Shrine, turn back and cross the broken bridge. Look to the right, across from the campsite, and you’ll see a stack of breakable boxes behind some tall grass. Break the boxes to reveal a hidden path. Crouch to enter this path, and it will lead you to a small ledge. Interact with the yellow glowing item on the corpse, and you’ll find the Fire Shuriken Handbook.
- Now, you can equip this Ninjutsu from the Customize Martial Arts/Ninjutsu menu.

Fire Shuriken Explained in Nioh 3
In Nioh 3, the Fire Shuriken Ninjutsu lets you throw a shuriken covered in flames at an enemy. After a short time, it explodes. The game describes it as:
- Throw a shuriken to deal damage to an enemy. These shuriken burst into flames shortly after piercing their target, dealing additional damage. (Stock: 5, Accumulation Rate: 5.0)
A Fire Shuriken deals the same initial damage as a standard Shuriken. About two seconds after impact, it explodes, causing fire damage and building up the ‘Scorched’ effect on the enemy. Being ‘Scorched’ is similar to being burned – it deals damage over time and makes the enemy vulnerable to extra damage from explosions if they’re near anything flammable.
To fully apply the ‘Scorched’ effect, you need more than one Fire Shuriken. You can achieve this with a second Shuriken, a weapon coated in fire, or another fire-based technique like Uncanny Flame. Only when a character is fully ‘Scorched’ will they start taking damage over time. Importantly, only the explosion from the Fire Shuriken builds up the ‘Scorched’ status – the initial impact itself is just regular physical damage.
Fire Shuriken are more powerful than regular Shuriken, but they’re harder to charge – it takes twice the effort. You can also only store half as many at a time, with a maximum of five instead of ten.
