Despite rumors, a PlayStation 5 version of Starfield likely won’t be announced at the February 12th State of Play event. However, a source suggests that Bethesda will share news about bringing the sci-fi role-playing game to Sony’s console soon.
Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, Starfield was the first game released by Bethesda Game Studios. It debuted on Xbox Series X/S and PC in September 2023 and remains unavailable on PlayStation 5. Recently, Microsoft has become more open to releasing games on platforms other than Xbox, bringing franchises like Gears of War and Halo to PlayStation. However, there’s been no indication that Starfield will follow suit – all reports have been based on speculation. Even though Starfield received a more varied response from players and critics than some other Bethesda games, a PlayStation release would likely generate a lot of buzz.
Starfield on PS5 Isn’t Expected to Appear at State of Play
A reliable source, shinobi602, says don’t expect to see Starfield on PlayStation 5 during Sony’s State of Play event on February 12th. When asked about a possible PS5 port and the game’s next expansion, shinobi602 hinted that news will arrive next month – meaning March. While there’s no specific date yet, this suggests a PlayStation version could be revealed soon. Gamers might also hear more about the second Starfield expansion, which was first announced in August 2025 but hasn’t been discussed much since.
A recent prediction from shinobi602 about a reveal in March supports rumors that Starfield might be released on PlayStation 5 in April. While a quick turnaround from announcement to launch, this would fit with Bethesda’s recent pattern of surprising releases, like the unexpected launch of Oblivion Remastered which still surprised players nearly a year later. Bethesda also recently announced Fallout 4 and Oblivion Remastered for the Switch 2. Fallout 4 arrives on February 24th, demonstrating Bethesda’s current strategy of announcing ports closer to their release dates.
Gamers are hoping to see more of Saros and Marvel’s Wolverine at the upcoming State of Play presentation. There’s also talk that Devil May Cry 6 and a new Resident Evil game, possibly called Requiem, might be revealed. We’ll have to watch the presentation on February 12th to find out what’s actually announced.
Even though Starfield has been out for over two years, there’s still a lot to be excited about for fans. The upcoming expansion is expected to improve the game, especially since it received mixed reactions when it first launched. There’s also strong speculation about a major Starfield 2.0 update, which some are comparing to the substantial improvements made to Cyberpunk 2077. It’s encouraging to see Bethesda continuing to support Starfield, as they could have easily moved on after the initial release. In addition to Starfield, the studio is still working on The Elder Scrolls 6, which was first announced back in 2018.
