While exploring the Heian Era in Nioh 3, players can uncover many hidden secrets. These aren’t just limited to items; they can also lead to powerful bosses who drop valuable loot. Here’s a guide to finding and defeating the Heian Era’s secret boss in Nioh 3.
This article reveals details about upcoming quests and boss battles in Nioh 3. Be warned – it contains spoilers!
Heian Boss Location In Nioh 3
In Nioh 3, you can fight a hidden boss called the Demon of Envy, but only after you finish the main quest “Sacred Mountain Defiled”.
Okay, so if you’re hunting the Demon of Envy, you’ll want to travel to the Hachijo area, specifically in the Heian Era – around 1190 CE. I found him in a cave underground, just north of Rajomon and pretty close to the Anneibo Temple Shrine. It’s a bit hidden, but that’s where he is!
Okay, so from the starting point, you head east and go up onto the platform. Then, turn left and just keep jumping across until you land on a rooftop. From there, drop down to the roof below, and you’ll see a large opening with a ladder inside – that’s where you need to go!
Climb down the ladder to discover a body and the spirit of Kunimatsu. Follow the ghost further into the cave until you reach a large open area, where you’ll encounter the Demon of Envy.
The boss primarily attacks with fiery snakes, and sometimes uses her katanas. She’ll either send a snake to breathe fire while she attacks, or leap forward with a powerful area-of-effect fire attack. Watch out for fire pillars that rise from the ground, too. Generally, you’ll be dodging fire from her snakes or her katana slashes.
To minimize damage and maximize your attacks, try using a fire-resistant talisman and taking advantage of Burst Attacks when you have a chance. For your Samurai, focus on defense and Ki generation by equipping skills like Indomitable Spirit, Recoup, and Unshakable. When playing as a Ninja, prioritize speed and damage by choosing Supreme Shift, Dodging, and Snakebite.
For this battle, the Ibaraki Doji Soul Core is a particularly effective choice when placed in the Yang slot – it allows you to strike the Demon of Envy with a powerful, electrified hammer. Boosting your defense and attack power with Onmyo Magic Items, and slowing down the boss, are also excellent strategies. Remember to invest in Magic stats so you can use multiple magic items. You can further increase your yokai’s damage by upgrading your equipment and Soul Cores.
After you beat the Demon of Envy, you’ll see a short video about Kunimatsu, and then you can claim your prizes. One of these prizes is the Demon of Envy’s Soul Core, which will let you summon stronger allies and get better Magic Items.
