Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Reveals Exciting New Detail

The Steam page for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has been updated with new details about the game, including how many characters will be playable when it launches. Since its initial announcement at last summer’s State of Play, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has generated a lot of excitement. The game is a tag-team fighter in the style of classics like Marvel vs. Capcom, but with a unique Japanese aesthetic – for example, Iron Man’s suit is designed with inspiration from Gundam. With a release still expected in 2026, fans are eager to learn more.

After the announcement of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, fans quickly got a chance to play it at events like Evo 2025 and the Tokyo Game Show, as well as through a closed beta test. Although the beta was limited – it only included the New York stage and 6 of the 8 announced characters – it allowed players to experience the game’s unique 4v4 battles and share helpful feedback with the developers. It’s been a while since Arc System Works shared news about the game, but a new update could be coming soon.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls New Game Details

A Steam page recently appeared for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and many believe this means the game will be showcased at Sony’s upcoming State of Play event. The Steam page revealed that the game will launch with a total of 20 playable characters, adding to the 8 already announced. While some fans might have hoped for a larger initial roster for this team-based fighting game (which features 4v4 battles), the developers, Arc System Works, have a history of adding characters to their games like Guilty Gear and BlazBlue through downloadable content, so more characters could be added later.

So, Steam didn’t just reveal the initial character lineup – they also dropped info about what we’ll actually do in the game! We’re getting 64-player online lobbies, which is awesome. They’ve promised the usual versus modes, local co-op, and a single-player ‘Episode Mode’ where you really get to explore the different teams and learn a ton about the Marvel universe. Honestly, it sounds like a pretty typical fighting game mode selection, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing – it means they’re hitting all the expected beats!

PC players will enjoy extra features, including an ‘Ultra’ graphics setting for powerful computers. This allows for smooth gameplay at 60 frames per second and stunning 4K resolution. The PlayStation DualSense controller is also compatible with the PC version, but it needs to be connected with a cable to use all of its features. And for fighting game fans, Marvel Tokon players can purchase FlexStick, Sony’s brand new fight stick.

Like all good fighting games, the characters are a huge draw for fans. It’s been a while since Arc System Works showed off new content – Spider-Man and Ghost Rider (as Robbie Reyes) were the last additions to the game in demos. They also revealed the X-Mansion stage in 2025, with several X-Men characters visible in the background, which made some fans question if characters like Psylocke, Gambit, or Iceman won’t actually be playable. With producer Takeshi Yamanaka stating that Arc System plans to support Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls for a full 10 years, it’s very likely every player will find a character they love eventually.
