The first big game created specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, Mario Tennis Fever, has received its reviews. While many reviewers liked the game’s basic gameplay and the ability to play with others, opinions are somewhat divided, as some found the Adventure mode lacking.

Nintendo revealed Mario Tennis Fever during its September 2025 Direct, and it’s coming to the Switch 2 on February 12, 2026. The game boasts a huge roster of nearly 40 characters and 30 unique “Fever Rackets” that each add a special ability to matches. Players can enjoy an Adventure Mode where Mario and friends are magically turned into babies and have to relearn how to play, as well as Tournament, Trial Towers, and Mix It Up modes.

Currently, the top review for Mario Tennis Fever on OpenCritic comes from Jordan Biordi of CGMagazine, who gave the Nintendo Switch exclusive a 9/10 score. Biordi believes this could be the best Mario Tennis game yet, noting it plays as well as Mario Tennis Aces and that the new Fever mechanics make gameplay even more engaging. He also appreciated the game’s diverse modes, though he did point out some issues with the audio quality.

Reviews for Mario Tennis Fever were mixed. Aaron Potter from The Mirror gave it a 6 out of 10, calling it enjoyable but imperfect and noting it seemed to focus more on adding lots of content than making everything polished. On OpenCritic, it launched with the same high score as Mario Tennis Aces, a game that was a big step up from Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash on the Wii U.
