The game Lost in Anomaly, inspired by the popular psychological horror game The Exit 8, is currently available for free on Steam. However, this offer ends on February 16th. The Exit 8 became a hit with Steam players in 2023 due to its unsettling story and focus on puzzles.
Many games have attempted to copy the popular style of The Exit 8, and Lost in Anomaly is a prime example. However, none have achieved quite the same level of success. The Exit 8 itself has received overwhelmingly positive feedback on Steam, even leading to a live-action version. Despite this, other escape room games inspired by The Exit 8 can still be enjoyable for fans of the genre, particularly free ones like Lost in Anomaly.

- Claim Lost in Anomaly for free on Steam
From February 11th at 10:00 am PT to February 16th, you can get Lost in Anomaly for free on Steam. Aximus Games, the game’s developer, wants to build a bigger community before the full version (1.0) comes out, so they’re giving the game away. Normally costing $4, Lost in Anomaly is currently in Early Access, and the release date for the full version hasn’t been announced yet.
In Lost in Anomaly, you explore a strange building, starting on the ninth floor. The goal is to find and highlight anything that looks out of place. Successfully spotting these differences will take you to the next floor, and you continue until you reach the bottom. But be careful – a single mistake will send you back to the beginning.
Anomaly-hunting games are a type of horror and puzzle game where you win by remembering details and finding small changes.
If you enjoy scary psychological horror games, you’ll be glad to know that Lost in Anomaly features frightening creatures that will actively chase you. This means you’ll need to do more than just solve puzzles – you’ll also have to find ways to escape these terrifying enemies.

- 25 to 75 minutes of gameplay in each run
- Realistic environments
- Creatures chasing the player
- Hidden anomalies that can only be detected with UV light
- An extensive list of anomalies for players to discover
Lost in Anomaly has been available as an Early Access game on Steam since 2024. It’s received a handful of reviews from players so far, and most of them – around 80% – are positive. Players particularly appreciate how the game uses sound and music to create a truly terrifying atmosphere. Many also mention that the unpredictable jumpscares are especially effective.
While many players enjoy the game, some negative reviews mention that it doesn’t feel very unique. A few players have also encountered frustrating bugs, like creatures or progress resets, that make it difficult to finish tasks. Fortunately, Lost in Anomaly is still being developed, and the creators, Aximus Games, can use this feedback to make the game even better before it officially releases.
