How to Use Critical Attacks in Yakuza Kiwami 3

Kazuma Kiryu is an incredibly skilled fighter, and Yakuza Kiwami 3 really showcases his impressive combat abilities. His unique fighting style has earned him both fear and respect throughout Japan. To maintain Kiryu’s reputation, players will need to learn to fight as he does, and that means becoming proficient at parrying.

So, in Yakuza Kiwami 3, you can actually parry attacks, and if you time it right, you open up enemies for critical attacks – these do way more damage and really mess them up! If you’re having trouble getting the hang of parrying, or you just want to see how those critical attacks work, I’ve put together a guide below to help you out.

How to Parry & Use Critical Attacks in Yakuza Kiwami 3

What Are Critical Attacks?

In Yakuza Kiwami 3, “Critical Attacks” refer to perfectly timed parries. These are performed using a Quickstep or Guard Attack. Both the Dragon of Dojima and Ryukyu fighting styles have their own way of parrying, and we’ll explain how each one works below.

  • Dragon of Dojima ParryTo parry in the Dragon of Dojima stance, you must perform a Perfect Quickstep. This is achieved by using R1 + X right when an enemy strikes, followed by an immediate press of Square/Triangle. This is known as a Quickstep Attack.
  • Ryukyu Style ParryTo parry in the Ryukyu Style stance, you must perform a Perfect Guard. This is achieved by tapping L1 right when an enemy attacks, followed by a quick press of Square/Triangle. This is known as a Perfect Guard Attack.

Okay, so I’ve figured out a couple of things while playing. The Dragon of Dojima style doesn’t let me do a Perfect Guard, and Ryukyu Style completely takes away the ability to do a Perfect Quickstep. Just a heads-up for anyone else learning the styles!
