Shonen Jump Has Officially Found The New Big Three

Weekly Shonen Jump is a hugely popular manga magazine in Japan. It’s famous for publishing some of the biggest and most beloved manga series of all time, including Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, My Hero Academia, and Jujutsu Kaisen, as well as many other hits.

Last year was tough for Weekly Shonen Jump when two of its biggest hits, Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia, finished their runs one after the other. The magazine is still working to regain its footing, but it’s already focusing on building up its next generation of popular series. Traditionally, the “Big Three” referred to One Piece, Bleach, and Naruto, but that group is now evolving. The new “Big Three” poised to lead Weekly Shonen Jump are One Piece, Kagurabachi, and Ichi the Witch. These three series are expected to become the magazine’s main attractions, taking the place of Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia.

Shonen Jump’s New Big Three Are One Piece, Ichi the Witch, and Kagurabachi

The “Big Three” is a nickname Western fans use to describe what they consider the four best action-adventure manga published in Weekly Shonen Jump. It originally referred to the three most popular series from the 2000s and early 2010s – One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach. Because Naruto and Bleach have since finished their runs, many fans feel the original “Big Three” era is over, though the term is still used to discuss top series.

Following the conclusions of popular series like Naruto and Bleach, My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen stepped up to become major titles for Weekly Shonen Jump, joining One Piece as its biggest draws. For a time in the late 2010s and early 2020s, these three series were considered the magazine’s new ‘Big 3’. But now, One Piece is once again the sole leading series, as both Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia have finished their runs, representing a significant loss for the magazine in 2024.

As a huge Shonen Jump fan, I’m really excited about what’s coming next! With Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia taking a bit of a breather, it feels like One Piece is getting some awesome new companions. I’ve been following Ichi the Witch and Kagurabachi, and even though they’re still pretty new, I honestly think they could become the next big hitters – maybe even the new ‘Big Three’ alongside One Piece! They’ve got that special something, and I can’t wait to see where they go.

Kagurabachi And Ichi the Witch Have Established Themselves As The New Big Hits

Both Kagurabachi, which began in 2023, and Ichi the Witch, a newer series starting in 2025, are exciting manga with over 60 chapters each. Kagurabachi, with over 100 chapters currently, is a high-quality action story focused on sorcerers and intense sword fights – it feels similar to Jujutsu Kaisen. Ichi the Witch, on the other hand, is a fantasy manga with a magical focus that’s generally lighter in tone, though it still has its serious moments. In terms of overall feel and how characters use their abilities, it’s comparable to My Hero Academia.

These two series are major hits for Weekly Shonen Jump, and the magazine recognizes their importance. They’ve been heavily promoted together, even receiving a combined nickname – Ichikabachika – to emphasize their connection.

Shonen Jump Has Entered A New Era With A New Big Three

The popular manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump recently finished running two of its biggest series, My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen. When these were publishing alongside One Piece, sales were exceptionally high. Now, the magazine is moving into a new phase. While it’s uncertain if new series like Kagurabachi and Ichi the Witch will reach the same level of success, they definitely show a lot of promise.

I’m so excited to see how fans react when both of these amazing series finally get their anime adaptations! From what I’ve heard, we might get the Kagurabachi anime as early as 2026, which is fantastic! Ichi the Witch will probably take a bit longer – looks like we’re looking at 2027 or beyond for that one, but it’ll be worth the wait, I’m sure!
