New Local Co-Op PS5 Game is Releasing Just in Time for Valentine’s Day

Early reviews are now available for Reanimal, the new cooperative game from Tarsier Studios. It’s scheduled to launch on February 13, 2026, for PlayStation 5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. Tarsier Studios has been developing games since the 2000s, but they’re probably most famous for creating the first two Little Nightmares games, both of which you can play on PS5.

Tarsier Studios, bought by Embracer Group in 2019, decided to move away from the Little Nightmares series, with Bandai Namco retaining ownership of the franchise. Instead, Tarsier has been working on Reanimal, a new game that builds on the atmosphere and gameplay of Little Nightmares while exploring fresh ideas. Like the recently launched Little Nightmares 3 from Supermassive Games, Reanimal focuses on a cooperative, two-player horror experience.

  • Top Critic Average on OpenCritic: 81
  • Critic Recommendation Score: 84%

As of February 12th, critics on OpenCritic give Reanimal an average score of 81 out of 100, and 84% of them recommend it. This score is based on 63 reviews. While more reviews might be added later, they probably won’t change the game’s overall score significantly.

Despite receiving a generally positive “Strong” rating on OpenCritic, reviews for Reanimal are quite mixed. Many critics, including Nile Bowie from Nintendo Life, have given the game high scores – a 9 out of 10 – praising it as Tarsier Studios’ most ambitious work yet. Bowie notes that Reanimal builds upon the gameplay of Little Nightmares while adding accessible cooperative play. Ravi Sinha of GamingBolt shared a similar view, stating that Reanimal delivers what fans expect from the Little Nightmares creators, but stands out as a unique and impressive game. Jon Clarke of Xbox Era also awarded a 9/10, acknowledging some imperfections but ultimately describing it as a polished and confident experience.

Reanimal has received mostly positive reviews, with many scores around 8 and 7 out of 10. Matt Wales from Eurogamer gave it 4 out of 5 stars, describing it as a captivating, dark, and threatening game that successfully builds on the style of Little Nightmares. Cheri Faulkner at GameSpot awarded it an 8/10, highlighting its impressive art style and fun cooperative gameplay. While GamesRadar+’s Leon Hurley gave it a 3.5/5, they praised the game’s creative visuals but felt the story and structure lacked a strong connection, comparing the experience to browsing through disconnected concept art – imaginative and inventive, but ultimately disjointed.

Currently, the game Reanimal has received a low score of 6/10 on OpenCritic, with PCGamesN’s Gina Lees criticizing it as being overly long and having a confusing story. While she enjoyed the boss battles, she found the co-op mode difficult to use. Aaron Potter from The Mirror gave Reanimal 3 out of 5 stars, noting that it felt too similar to other games and that the developers, Tarsier, didn’t take enough risks.

It has an average score of 81 from top critics on OpenCritic, which is higher than the first Little Nightmares game and the newest one, though slightly lower than Little Nightmares 2.
