World of Warcraft Players Are Missing Gold Rewards in Patch 12.0.1

A bug in World of Warcraft is causing some players to receive less gold than expected from completing World Quests in certain areas. This issue was found shortly after the recent Midnight pre-expansion patch was released.

On February 10th, Blizzard released an update for World of Warcraft to adjust the power of different character classes before the launch of the Midnight expansion on March 2nd. The update included tweaks to most classes and specializations, including the Unholy Death Knight and the new Devourer Demon Hunter. Along with gameplay changes, the update also updated the login screen with Midnight‘s theme and a view of Silvermoon City, the capital of the Blood Elves. Players will be able to explore a redesigned Silvermoon City when Midnight is released in a few weeks.

World of Warcraft Players Are Getting Short-Changed

The recent pre-launch event for World of Warcraft received a varied reaction from players, but many were still getting ready for the new adventure in Quel’thalas. However, a bug is currently preventing players from receiving gold rewards from World Quests. This issue is happening in zones from the The War Within expansion – like the Isle of Dorn and K’aresh – as well as zones from the Dragonflight expansion, including the Waking Shores and Ohn’ahran Plains. Players can see a missing gold amount when they check the rewards for these quests on the map, confirming it’s not intentional. Luckily, other rewards like Valorstones, Resonance Crystals, and gear are still being given out normally.

Blizzard hasn’t yet said anything about the issue causing players to lose gold, so it’s unclear when they’ll fix it. But for now, World of Warcraft players can still earn gold through World Quests. The bug doesn’t seem to affect World Quests in older expansions like Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands. Also, weekly World Quests—like those involving world bosses or completing multiple objectives—are still giving out gold. You can find these types of quests in areas like Siren Isle within The War Within expansion. Besides the usual option of selling items at the auction house, WoW players have a few ways to make gold while waiting for a fix, even before the Midnight expansion launches.

Midnight Will Provide Several Ways to Earn Gold

Even though there’s still a problem with missing gold rewards in World of Warcraft, players can enjoy a special in-game event and earn unique items. The annual Love Is in the Air event, celebrating Valentine’s Day, is happening now in World of Warcraft until February 23rd. During the event, players can collect special cosmetic items, including rare mounts like the X-45 Heartbreaker and the Spring Butterfly. Players can also earn necklaces by completing a specific activity and sell them for a small amount of gold.

Players who buy the Epic Edition of the Midnight expansion for World of Warcraft will get early access starting February 26. The Epic Edition costs $90 and includes 30 days of game time, plus special Light and Void-themed cosmetic items. Throughout 2026, Midnight will add plenty of new content, giving players multiple ways to earn gold and other in-game currencies. It remains to be seen when Blizzard will fix the current problems players are having with earning gold.
