Star Wars is Getting a Brand-New Racing Game

Fuse Games recently showed off gameplay footage for their new Star Wars: Galactic Racer game. This fast-paced racing title will take players to the Star Wars universe for thrilling podraces, and early looks suggest it could be the best entry in the series since the original Episode 1: Racer came out in 1999.

The first glimpse of Star Wars: Galactic Racer came during The Game Awards 2025. The initial trailer set the game’s exciting tone, introducing players to The Galactic League – a dangerous, underground podracing competition held in the Outer Rim. It showed off familiar planets from the Star Wars galaxy that fans would instantly recognize. A big surprise at the time was the planned 2026 release date, meaning players wouldn’t have to wait long to play. Because of this, it’s not surprising that fans quickly received another update about Star Wars: Galactic Racer.

New Star Wars: Galactic Racer Gameplay Shown at State of Play

The latest State of Play presentation featured a new, exciting trailer for Star Wars: Galactic Racer, showcasing what appears to be actual gameplay footage of the podraces. Players will be able to race from either a first-person or third-person perspective, letting them experience the fast-paced action however they like. The game looks fantastic, and the trailer gave a closer look at the beautiful planets featured in Star Wars: Galactic Racer. The explosive effects were particularly impressive, really conveying the intense danger of high-speed podracing.

We don’t know much about the story of Star Wars: Galactic Racer yet, but a recent trailer showed a quick scene. It left fans wanting to know more! The trailer ended with exciting footage of the Boonta Eve Classic race on Tatooine, featuring characters like Ben Quadinaros and Sebulba. Many fans thought it wouldn’t feel like true podracing without these familiar faces, so it’s great to see they’ll be included in the game.

After a 24-year gap, Star Wars: Galactic Racer marks the return of racing games to the Star Wars universe. The last installment was Star Wars Racer Revenge in 2002, following Super Bombad Racing (2001), Racer Arcade (2000), and the original Star Wars Episode 1: Racer in 1999. Given how well podracing lends itself to video games, it’s surprising the franchise stayed away from the racing genre for so long. Thankfully, it’s back, and early looks suggest it’s a fantastic addition.

It looks like fans can expect a lot more Star Wars games in the next few years. Respawn is still working on the next Jedi game, and there’s Galactic Racer on the way. Bit Reactor is creating a strategy game called Star Wars Zero Company, while Amy Hennig and Quantic Dream are both developing their own Star Wars titles, including Star Wars: Eclipse. Plus, the Knights of the Old Republic remake and Casey Hudson’s Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic are also in the works. If all these games are successful, it could be a fantastic time for Star Wars video games.
