Band of Crusaders set to arrive on GOG

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about Band of Crusaders coming to GOG. With its deep tactical combat reminiscent of Baldur’s Gate and Dragon Age: Origins, and a dark, atmospheric world teeming with demons inspired by European and Slavic folklore, it’s like Virtual Alchemy has reached into my gaming soul and crafted the perfect RPG for me.

The development team, Virtual Alchemy, known for their latest announcement of Band of Crusaders, has disclosed that it will also be available on GOG upon its launch. In response to player feedback, they plan to distribute the game not only through Steam but also on the GOG platform to expand its reach when the RPG becomes accessible. As of now, a release date has yet to be announced.

The Band of Crusaders delivers intricate tactical real-time battles, enhanced by an innovative Slow Motion system – a contemporary adaptation of the traditional Real-Time Pause gameplay. You command a troop of medieval soldiers as they traverse a dark, immersive universe filled with demons, some of which are based on European and Slavic folklore, resonating strongly with the Poland development team.

According to Dominik Sypnicki, CEO of Virtual Alchemy, since its release, players have been comparing Band of Crusaders to cherished games such as Baldur’s Gate, Dragon Age: Origins, Heroes of Might & Magic, and The Witcher. This enthusiasm from the gaming community sparked this partnership, and we are thrilled to share Band of Crusaders with a wider audience.

According to Art Director Kamil Mickiewicz, our demon designs typically develop along two primary avenues. The first is deeply influenced by the original source material from European lands, including its plants and wildlife. These terrifying embodiments of evil often combine features from the remains of fallen humans or animals, with additional mutations that remain unexplained and incorporate elements such as plants or fragments of the earth itself. The second path draws inspiration from biblical themes, such as depictions of demons or representations of the Seven Deadly Sins. This method creates entities that are not only grotesque but also symbolize the core of human nature and the dark aspects of medieval culture.

The game “Band of Crusaders” is richly detailed with eerie medieval backdrops reminiscent of “The Witcher” series, which serve as interactive elements as players navigate the narrative, exploring a twisted depiction of medieval Europe. Mickiewicz mentioned that releasing “Band of Crusaders” on GOG was primarily to uphold the liberty for players to select their preferred platform.

Sypnicki stated, “This partnership with GOG seems incredibly appropriate.” Intriguingly, it was a serendipitous occurrence at Gamescom that initiated this collaboration – our booths were side by side. It was during this event that we both understood the same message from players: they desired Band of Crusaders on GOG. It seemed as though destiny was steering Band of Crusaders towards the GOG platform. The swiftness of the decision was due to the players’ enthusiasm, making it a seamless collaboration.
