New God of War Game Shadowdropped By Santa Monica Studio; Available Now On PS5

Santa Monica Studio, the team behind God of War, made a big return on Thursday, February 12th, during the latest State of Play presentation. They revealed a huge and unexpected surprise for fans!

A New Perspective on the Spartan Legend

The studio surprised everyone by announcing God of War: Sons of Sparta, a new game in the series. It’s a unique entry, offering a 2D action-platforming experience and showing a side of the Spartan’s story never explored before.

This new story is officially part of the God of War universe and features a much younger Kratos, before his famous battles with the Greek and Norse gods. It focuses on his early training with his brother, Deimos, and was written by the same talented team behind God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök.

I was so thrilled to hear TC Carson is back as Kratos! It’s amazing to have him narrate the story – it really brings back a lot of great memories and adds something special to the whole experience.

Mega Cat Studios, a team known for creating games with a retro feel, teamed up with Santa Monica Studio to develop this project. The collaboration produced stunning, hand-drawn pixel art animation.

Honestly, the coolest thing is that God of War: Sons of Sparta is actually out right now! I can’t believe I can just jump in and play it.

The game is now available on the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 5 in two editions: the Standard Edition costs $29.99, and the Digital Deluxe Edition is $39.99. The Deluxe Edition comes with extra in-game items like Blue Orbs (used as currency), a belt attachment, and a unique arrow, plus digital bonuses including an artbook, a PSN avatar, and the game’s soundtrack.
