Giant Sandworm's Belly Dungeon Complete Guide - Metaphor: ReFantazio

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the strategy to beat Homo Fios and Parasitic Valmo in the Giant Sandworm’s Belly dungeon is both ingenious and entertaining. Having faced countless challenges in virtual realms, I’ve learned to appreciate the creativity that developers put into creating formidable foes.

In the game “Metaphor, ReFantazio“, there exists a distinctive dungeon known as the Giant Sandworm’s Stomach. This special dungeon vanishes once it has been cleared only once. When the hero’s team unsuccessfully attempts to conquer the Giantworm Homo Butera, they are thrust into the literal belly of the beast. The sole escape route lies in moving forward within the stomach itself.

Inside the Unique Realm of the Colossal Sandworm lies a set of guidelines distinct from anything players have experienced before. The primary factor is that each moment spent within its belly becomes a thrilling race against time, an exhilarating dash towards the final destination. This tutorial will show you how to optimally handle the timer and gather all hidden treasures for a complete sweep.

Giant Sandworm’s Belly Dungeon Preparation

Prior to venturing into the dungeon, grab the Hero Incense located by the enigmatic old man and secure your position by chatting with More’s cat. After that, engage the Lump of Flesh to access the initial segment of the Belly.

Upon entering, you’ll find a timer at the center of the screen ticking down from fifteen minutes. Once this countdown ends, toxic fluids will rush into the Sandworm’s stomach, instantly ending your mission. Your objective is to escape the labyrinth before that moment arrives. It’s important to note that the timer does not stop during fights, so engaging in battles with the various creatures inhabiting the stomach isn’t advisable. Try to steer clear of these slimy creatures as they will only slow you down.

Peeking at your map momentarily halts the clock inside the Great Sandworm, providing you with a chance to strategize your route more effectively.

Yet, numerous valuable items are hidden within the belly of the colossal Sandworm, and as this is a unique, single-use dungeon, it’s essential to gather them immediately, as this is the sole opportunity for acquisition.

Giant Sandworm’s Belly First Section (Foregut)

As soon as you arrive, make a left turn. Use your auto-attacks to clear the way, then open the chest to obtain the Healing Balm. After doing so, spin around and take a left again. You’ll find yourself facing two paths that branch off.

Initially, choose the left trail. There, you’ll encounter several slimy monsters in red, green, and purple that resemble goo, guarding the vicinity. These creatures are resistant to physical attacks and it would take too long to defeat them. Therefore, it’s best to steer clear of them as they approach and swiftly navigate the trail. Along the way, gather the blue items. Once you reach the end, veer right to clear away the thorny bushes and uncover a treasure chest holding the Hero’s Leaf of Light (a valuable item that boosts Archetype Experience by 1000).

Hold off on attacking the Blob of Flesh for now. Instead, look behind you and notice the two paths appearing once more. Opt for the path that seems to have pools of dark digestive fluid on its surface. Collect every blue item you find, one at a time, until the area is completely cleared out. Press the dodge button rapidly to move swiftly through the acidic substance. Though it will occasionally harm your party, the damage isn’t severe and can be healed later in the game.

Once I’ve wrapped up all my tasks, I’ll find myself right back at square one. Taking a turn to the right will lead me to an isolated Red Elmenta on the path ahead. If I manage to stun it first, it won’t be much of a challenge to defeat. The reward? MAG and Reeve! Push forward along the path, and you’ll encounter vegetal-like creatures on both sides, squirting green goo from their mouths occasionally. Don’t let them fool you; they’re not actual enemies but mere obstacles. Dodge their attacks as they come, and I’ll safely make it to the other side.

Avoid the monsters guarding the Lump of Flesh and attack it to open the path ahead.

In case you perish within this dungeon or the time limit expires, you’ll be teleported back to the starting point. There won’t be any automatic saves during your journey.

Giant Sandworm’s Belly Second Section (Hindgut)

There will be four possible progression routes at the start of this section. Leave the leftmost one for last; it has an unavoidable boss fight. Take the rightmost path first and clear the brambles to pick up the two blue items here. Return to the start and delve down into the stomach acid, picking up the blue items along the way. Once you’re free of the acid, turn right, and you’ll see a thin path lined by more of the goo-plant obstacles. Take this path to find another treasure chest containing Fencer’s Headgear.

Avoid interacting with the Red Elemental in this area. It’s currently surrounded by tough adversaries, making it more challenging to defeat compared to the previous one.

As a keen explorer, I encourage you to circle back and venture into the zone where the acid churns, focusing on gathering all the elusive blue trinkets scattered across the ground. By this point, most areas of the map – except for the initial path on the far left – should be unveiled. Take a peek at your map to ensure no blue items have been overlooked. If there are none remaining, retrace your steps and embark on that leftmost path to engage in battle with the enigmatic Homo Fios.

How to Beat Homo Fios

Homo Fios is vulnerable to Fire damage, making it optimal to choose Mage as your character class when fighting him. A straightforward strategy to quickly defeat him is by changing the roles of all party members into Mages, resulting in a team consisting entirely of Mages: Mage, Mage, Mage. As Mages gain access to Bot (a fire-type skill) right from the start, this allows you to exploit Homo Fios’s weakness simultaneously across your entire team and launch six attacks during a single turn.

One potential rephrasing could be: The main issue with this approach is that Homo Fios moves quicker than the entire group, taking the lead before battles even start. Its unique skill, Fishy Fandango, significantly boosts its evasion and hit chance, making it highly probable for attacks to miss and for turn indicators to vanish. If an attack does miss, two turns are forfeited, allowing Homo Fios to swiftly regain the upper hand.

To overcome this issue, keep repeatedly using the ‘Retry Battle’ feature. This will reset the fight and allow you to try again every time it occurs. Essentially, just persist with attacking the bot until it works, and Homo Fios will be defeated in a single turn. Also, since the timer resets when the battle starts anew, there are no negative consequences to this approach in the Giant Sandworm’s Belly dungeon.

Following your victory over Homo Fios, unlock the treasure chest situated on the right side to acquire the Scorpion Sting (Weapon for Gunner). Proceed by attacking the Lump of Flesh to clear the path forward. Be cautious and steer clear of the monsters that are escorting the final Lump of Flesh, and then attack it to gain entry to the final room.

How to Beat Parasitic Valmo

Giant Sandworm's Belly Dungeon Complete Guide - Metaphor: ReFantazio

In its opening strategy, the parasitic creature known as Valmo will call forth two vampiric jellies, or gelatinos, to assist in combat. This is a one-time summon, so defeating these jellies early in the battle will make it much less challenging. The vampiric gelatinos are vulnerable to Ice and Lightning elements but immune to Physical and Fire damage. In case you don’t have any Ice-based attacks at your disposal, opt for Wind or Lightning elemental strikes instead. Keep in mind that these jellies will retaliate immediately if you engage with melee attacks; it’s best to avoid them altogether. Once the gelatinos are vanquished, concentrate on defeating the parasitic Valmo itself.

Parasitic Valmo is vulnerable to attacks using Lightning element and resistant to Ice-based attacks. To inflict Lightning damage, consider mastering the skill Kande at Mage Rank 6. Another option includes utilizing items that deal fixed Lightning damage or relying on physical attacks, focusing on its weak points for maximum efficiency.

In a nutshell, the creature called Valmo, which is parasitic in nature, may acquire the condition known as ‘Forget’ before it can conjure two Vampiric Gelatinos. This situation significantly simplifies the battle. But, it’s important to note that this tactic works best for characters who have a high level of Luck.
